Peter thanks for the link.  It prompted me to remember a question I was going to put to NMB.  Even as a sword collector I have long enjoyed Japanese ceramics and casually browsed the Gotheborg website some time ago.

However, more recently, knowing of my interest in things Japanese, a good friend asked if I could tell him anything about a huge floor vase he is looking for information on.  I have spent a long time going through the Gotheborg website as thoroughly as I could looking for any information on the mark and kiln.  So I don't want anyone else duplicating that work unless they enjoy self-flagellation.  I also looked through the Gotheburg Red Seals section without any find.  I also searched extensively on the internet for an image that might reveal more about the maker.

My friend's floor vase is:

- about 4 feet in height

- it has a mark

- it is thought to be Satsuma

- it was bought by a deceased gentleman at auction some 30 years ago.

The mark looks beautifully fresh and it has occurred to me that it might be a very recent object, perhaps made early-mid 20th century.  I have attached some photos for a guide to the vase.

With thanks for any insights,

BaZZa.

aka Barry Thomas.
