Ed Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Hi all, I recently acquired a star stamped gendaito and translating the mei is giving me a hard time. I look like this guy trying to read it . I know it is Masa Hiro saku , but the rest is foreign to me (pun intended) Dr. Steins site list a "Hitachi Shishi do Isobe Masahiro", but i am unfamiliar with these characters. If one of you guys can read it, and share the reading with me, I would be much obliged. Arigato gozaimasu Quote
k morita Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Nice star stamped tang. The Mei is "Hitachi Shishido ju Isobe Masahiro saku" . Quote
Ed Posted October 3, 2008 Author Report Posted October 3, 2008 I was pretty sure that was the smith, but could not find an oshigata example to compare it to. Yes, is is a nicely cut mei, in fact the whole sword is in good condition as are the 44-45 mounts. Thank you very much for your time. Quote
GregD Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 Here is a sword by the same maker, dated 1945,the '44 pattern mounts are a little more simplified. The habaki is made of aluminum in the traditional manner.I spoke with the owner of the sword in this post a little while ago(didnt realize he was having dinner in a restaurant untill the waiter came and took his order during the conversation)its description is similar, maybe a little beefier.Havent seen anything else on this maker unless someone out there has anymore info on him. Thank You Greg Quote
