Peter Bleed Posted February 12, 2020 Report Posted February 12, 2020 I wanted to go to Japan for the swords, but I ended up studying Jomon pottery. I saw lots of pottery but nothing like this.... https://features.japantimes.co.jp/jomon-revival/?fbclid=IwAR0RysbgE8ANKqAyXOCsvx4HNhmQE3dTRspWWd9_aDna7aGlWXkMzZ6PweQ Peter 3 Quote
Bazza Posted February 12, 2020 Report Posted February 12, 2020 Well, yes, I say it is Art, both pottery and tattooing... Given the fantastic forms of Jomon pottery shown one wonders what was the cognitive map of the Jomon artisans. BaZZa. 1 Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted February 13, 2020 Report Posted February 13, 2020 Many similar tattoos here in Hawaii, based on ancient Polynesian patterns. Makes me wonder whether Jomon artisans & Polynesians ever communicated. 1 Quote
SAS Posted March 1, 2020 Report Posted March 1, 2020 I have a theory that the Jomon culture, and the La Pita people ancestral to some Polynesian cultures, were linked by genealogy and culture....i think the Jomon went north and east, while the La Pita went south and east, both making it to the American continent. Anthropologists claim the La Pita were ancestral to the Samoan people, but quit making pottery when they got to Samoa due to the lack of clay. They must not have gotten off the tarmac at the airport...the place is full of clay. 2 Quote
Fuuten Posted March 2, 2020 Report Posted March 2, 2020 The works look nothing like the ancient Jomon remnants I've seen though.. Quote
SAS Posted March 2, 2020 Report Posted March 2, 2020 Which works, Axel....the tattoos, or La Pita pottery vs. Jomon? Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted March 3, 2020 Report Posted March 3, 2020 Some of those designs come from Okinawa and from the Ainu. Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted March 3, 2020 Report Posted March 3, 2020 There almost had to be some cross-pollination in the ancient world. Too many similar art patterns, otherwise. Quote
