Mgr725 Posted February 1, 2020 Report Posted February 1, 2020 Hello I was hoping to get some insight on a couple swords. Pictures could be better but it’s a starting point. Thanks in advance. Quote
Geraint Posted February 1, 2020 Report Posted February 1, 2020 Dear Margaret. Please add your name to your post as we all do here. The first with the black scabbard is a Kaigunto or Naval sword from WWII, the other with the brown scabbard is a Shingunto or Army sword, also from WWII. The Kaigunto has an anchor stamp and is made from rustless steel. Both are wartime swords in very good condition. Do they have a family history? All the best. Quote
IJASWORDS Posted February 1, 2020 Report Posted February 1, 2020 The shin gunto (army sword) inscription is 1940. Quote
Stephen Posted February 1, 2020 Report Posted February 1, 2020 We need the other side of the Army to see who the smith is. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted February 1, 2020 Report Posted February 1, 2020 Army Type 98 - June 1941 (I get the 5 and 6 mixed up too, Neil!) Navy Type 97 You can read about them both here: http://ohmura-study.net/902.html Quote

Stephen Posted February 1, 2020 Report Posted February 1, 2020 No worries. I gave a translation the other day for a 43 so i said ju hachi. But i had 8 in my mind and wrote 1948...lol bit after the war...lol. Thankfully David F caught it and gave correct date. 1 Quote
