benatthelake Posted January 26, 2020 Report Posted January 26, 2020 Need a Tsuba for a robust Yoroi-Doshi Tanto requires a Nakago-Ana width of at least 1cm. Prefer to match as shown in pic. Best regards, Ben Quote

Ken-Hawaii Posted January 27, 2020 Report Posted January 27, 2020 All 9 of mine are aikuchi, Ben. Are you sure yours needs a tsuba? Quote
Bazza Posted January 27, 2020 Report Posted January 27, 2020 Ken, it has seppa so it seems to want a tsuba. Ben, with all the fittings on - habaki, 2 seppa and handle with peg in, how wide is the gap?? BaZZa. EDIT: Though the seppa seem considerably mismatched... Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted January 27, 2020 Report Posted January 27, 2020 Three of mine also have seppa, Barry, but there's not enough room for a tsuba, so I assume the saya &/or the tsuka was changed at some point. Quote
benatthelake Posted January 28, 2020 Author Report Posted January 28, 2020 Sorry guys. I really should have posted this pic. The seller bought the shown "tsuba".....which seems just like a thick seppa. I'm traveling this week, so don't have in hand....but I think is has a gap of about 4 mm without seppa and current tsuba. Ken-Hawaii Posted January 28, 2020 Report Posted January 28, 2020 That is considered a tsuba, although I doubt it would do much good keeping a hand from slipping onto the blade. So, is this your yoroi-doshi, Ben? Quote
benatthelake Posted January 28, 2020 Author Report Posted January 28, 2020 Yes Ken. This is the Yoroi doshi. Correct, the previous owner found this tsuba but recognized a better one is needed. I just want it to be more appropriate/matching. Make sense? Ben 1 Quote
Stephen Posted January 31, 2020 Report Posted January 31, 2020 this might be a nice contrast https://www.touken-matsumoto.jp/eng/product_details_e.php?prod_no=TSU-1871 Quote
benatthelake Posted January 31, 2020 Author Report Posted January 31, 2020 Thanks Steven. Very nice one! I'm going to ask about the Nakago ana width. I'm not aware of this dealer but trust them if you do. Ben Quote

Brian Posted January 31, 2020 Report Posted January 31, 2020 They generally get a very good rep.I like that tsuba. I don't think it has that classic yoroi-doshi ana though, but we will find out soon. Quote
