Bruce Pennington Posted January 10, 2020 Report Posted January 10, 2020 This one is in Type 94 fittings, which would be nice to have, but it's got a serial number stamped on the habaki (standard Chinese mistake), and I don't like the kanji on the nakago. This this legit or a bad fake? Auction here; https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/80111194_japanese-sword Thanks for the help! Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted January 10, 2020 Author Report Posted January 10, 2020 Thanks Chris. The auction pics aren't good enough to tell if the fittings are real, but seem to be. Too bad, I don't have a good Type 94 yet. 1 Quote
vajo Posted January 10, 2020 Report Posted January 10, 2020 I think the fittings are fake too Bruce. The binding is chinese style. Very bad made. 1 Quote
Brian Posted January 10, 2020 Report Posted January 10, 2020 Everything there is very fake. Someone should tell them. Quote
raaay Posted January 10, 2020 Report Posted January 10, 2020 I have seen many fakes on this site , I tend to comment and disagree with there experts with a - . Quote
16k Posted January 10, 2020 Report Posted January 10, 2020 Oh yes, 100% fake! That tsukamaki is so wrong that even present days fakes don’t do that mistake anymore. Quote
SAS Posted January 10, 2020 Report Posted January 10, 2020 The tsuka shape is not good, either. Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted January 10, 2020 Report Posted January 10, 2020 Any site that would sell that junk is one to avoid, Bruce. Legit auction sites don't allow Chinese fakes. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted January 11, 2020 Author Report Posted January 11, 2020 Thanks guys. After seeing it again, I'm surprised I even had to ask! DOH! Maybe the 94 fittings had me all "love is blind"! Quote
Guest Posted January 11, 2020 Report Posted January 11, 2020 Interesting those wily critters are attempting hot stamping on the Nakago, but also it looks like the attempt to create a hybrid Iriyamagata or Kengyo Nakago - Jiri has been done with Steel cutting shears. 1 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted January 11, 2020 Report Posted January 11, 2020 At a glance just the gloss saya and two hangers would intrigue me but I'm surprised you let it get this far, you should add a nice Type 94 to your collection as a reference piece. Claim it's purely academic to the wife if need be... 1 Quote
