So as I learn about swords I watch ebay for fun to see what swords go for etc...this one is in kind of rough shape but the blade looks a bit unique and stirred up some interest. The sword ended up selling for $1425.00 and I was wondering what you guys see when you look at it. What you can perhaps tell about it. One interesting part of it as well was that the seller knew nothing of swords and never displayed the tang; perhaps people liked a good chance and a bit-o-mystery. What do you guys think it could be? I've attached a link to a gallery of pics from the ebay listing.

First impressions, a militarised civilian blade of interesting form, a very rare suspension chain or hanger, and what looks to be the original send home packaging. A link to the original auction would be nice.

I'll have to link it from a pc I think. Cant figure out how to share it off my phone from ended items in my watchlist off my phone browser or ebay app. It just finished yesturday and went from $400ish to $1400 in the last few minutes. Watched the ebay bidding drama unfold live.

Just to say, I wish everyone did the same as you, and haunted the auctions to get an idea of prices and what to look for. All too many buy the first damn thing they see.

Nice, thanks for the additional photos Luis! Looks like people asked for tang pics.

Rough as the proverbial "Bears arse" but looks to be  an old O-Suriage blade, which might explain the interest.

I love seeing the packaging that was used to send souvenirs home. And this one is really special. I assume it is a big piece of bamboo that was turned into a shipping tube. Love it!

From the place where the bo-hi and soe-hi ends, I believe the partial mekugi-ana at the end of the nakago is the ubu-ana (which is why it was left visible). So, this was originally a larger koto blade... now o-suriage mumei.

iMHO, its a abit of a gamble.

the saya donst matche the tsuka, so one of the 2 are mistmatched. the saya appears to very neat but the tsuka is poor not to mention the configuration of the retention methd of a leather strap isnt consistent with saya's mechanical latching notch in koiguchi.

the blade with photos like that hmmmmmm, if theres a small hagire in the Ha, you have wasted your money

polish it/ new shirasaya and it papers late sue koto- mumei,  prob wasted your money/ or at best enjoyed to 12 month process.

just my humble opinion

Ya a cut down mystery sword lol. Ebay does not surprise me anymore. $400-$1400 in the last few minutes, thats about right. I do like the shipping bamboo tube though.
