YOJIMBO Posted December 23, 2019 Report Posted December 23, 2019 from time to time I come across these tsubas at different prices. some mass production or what is it? Quote
leo Posted December 23, 2019 Report Posted December 23, 2019 Hi, Simon, these are Kinko-school tsuba from late Edo and no fake at all! Tis style is very decorative and they are normally high priced. If you see one cheap, please let me know! Best, Martin 2 Quote
vajo Posted December 23, 2019 Report Posted December 23, 2019 Looks not fake for me on the first view. The nanako is very fine but on the right corner there is no nanako visible. Did you have bigger pictures? Quote

YOJIMBO Posted December 23, 2019 Author Report Posted December 23, 2019 why are there so many? I really see them quite often next: https://www.cmmilitaryantiques.com/products.php?rid=109 if those on yahoo were a treasure, it would sell for so little ??? Quote
vajo Posted December 23, 2019 Report Posted December 23, 2019 Puhh, you catch me. They look all gilded. Quote
rkg Posted December 23, 2019 Report Posted December 23, 2019 I grimace every time I see somebody pay a stupid price for one of these - there are bunch of them out there, some signed, some not, some with good guilding/silvering, some not so much, some with the casting seams visible, some better finished, etc. Its my understanding that these are early for mass produced pieces, but.... Its been suggested to me that I should think of them as giclees :-) Best, rkg (Richard George) 1 Quote
leo Posted December 23, 2019 Report Posted December 23, 2019 I think, later, from Keijo well into the Meiji Period they made a lot of decorative Daisho for export and used these tsuba. I had one long ago, fitted with a pair of papered Jumyo blades. I try to include some old pictures but they are not very good. Regards Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted December 23, 2019 Report Posted December 23, 2019 Largely decoration, rather than any real collector value (says the guy who collects Heianjo). Quote
roger dundas Posted December 24, 2019 Report Posted December 24, 2019 Well, for mine these things are way over the top and verging on hideous. Not at all refined but as I am learning, my judgement isn't so hot. Roger Quote
roger dundas Posted December 24, 2019 Report Posted December 24, 2019 Further, I feel guilty about venturing into the comments section being quite aware of my innocence/ignorance and will mostly desist but just felt a need to comment on the above. Roger Quote
