Vermithrax16 Posted December 17, 2019 Report Posted December 17, 2019 Really happy this Monday as a set of tsuba I have wanted forever became available and arrived today. Set of Sankei tsuba with motif of the big dipper. On left: NBTHK Hozon (translation attached here) 8.1cm X 8.9cm X 0.5cm On right, yet to be submitted, but after study and in hand I think Sankei as well: 8.0cm X 8.6cm X 0.5cm Would like to submit as a daisho set to shinsa soon. Reminds me of a great book that really moved me when I read it. 5 Quote

Ken-Hawaii Posted December 18, 2019 Report Posted December 18, 2019 All are very cool, daisho, especially. Thanks for posting. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted December 19, 2019 Report Posted December 19, 2019 Except that the Plough, or the Big Dipper has become unravelled. Quote
JohnTo Posted December 19, 2019 Report Posted December 19, 2019 Hi Jeremiah, A very nice restrained design. One adverse observation is that the surface either side of the nagako ana looks like it has been hammered flat. If it was not for the NBTHK Hozon I would be wondering if someone had not obliterated a signature that they did not like. Any explanation? all the best, John Quote
Kurikata Posted December 19, 2019 Report Posted December 19, 2019 Jeremiah, is it the same tsuba ? http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/23354-sankei-tsuba-for-sale/ Quote
Vermithrax16 Posted December 19, 2019 Author Report Posted December 19, 2019 John, no I dont have a good idea on why the flattened areas. The ground is textured and uneven on the works, so maybe to get a surface for the seppa to sit on? 1 Quote
JohnTo Posted December 20, 2019 Report Posted December 20, 2019 Jerimiah, Just looked at the photos on the link supplied by Bruno, which show the area clearer. No sign of a signature being removed. Hope I did not frighten you. John Quote
Vermithrax16 Posted December 20, 2019 Author Report Posted December 20, 2019 Yes Bruno. Same. No worries John. Quote
