Ray Singer Posted December 13, 2019 Report Posted December 13, 2019 If anyone can part with small bag of ivory chips suitable for removing red rust, please send me an email at raymondsinger@gmail.com. I recently acquired a beautiful blade which unfortunately has some large patches of active rust on the lower part of the nakago. This is typically treated like a rusty tsuba, and I would like to make a project over the holidays of addressing the active corrosion. Kind regards, Ray
Ray Singer Posted December 13, 2019 Author Report Posted December 13, 2019 Thank you Ed! I just sent a reply. Best regards, Ray
Ray Singer Posted December 13, 2019 Author Report Posted December 13, 2019 Thanks Hamish, I do think that antler would work well for a project of this type. Ed is making several pieces available though and I'll share the results of this project after the holidays. Best regards, Ray
Curran Posted December 14, 2019 Report Posted December 14, 2019 will deer antler work?? lesser hardness index. It works, but not as well. Thus it is better for 'take it slow'. We had a knife maker at the Tampa Sword Show for 1 or 2 years. He had a box of ivory bits leftover from making handles. I told him to put them out with a price tag on them. He was a little surprised how many people bought bits off him.
b.hennick Posted December 14, 2019 Report Posted December 14, 2019 I was one of them. Then I found piano keys!
SAS Posted December 14, 2019 Report Posted December 14, 2019 Hanko seals are good too, i got a lot from a Japanese seller a while back with some nice wood and ivory ones.
Greg F Posted December 14, 2019 Report Posted December 14, 2019 I can part with an ivory key if anyone is in need. Greg
