Taz575 Posted December 12, 2019 Report Posted December 12, 2019 I am looking to sell one of the katanas I purchased a few years ago. It was bought from Andy Quirt from Nihonto.us and I planned to have it restored and polished, but never got around to the project. The following is the description from his website: A stout ubu, mumei katana. Shinogizukure, iroi mune, chu-kissaki, high shinogi, hiraniku. The bohi stops just ahead of the yokote. Hawatare: 2 shaku 2 sun 8 bu 3 rin (69.2 cm or 27.24"). Motohaba: 3.14 cm. Sakihaba: 2.23 cm. Kasane: 6.7 mm. The hamon is notare with gunome, gunome choji, ashi and yo within. There is hataraki and kinsuji. The jigane has been obscured but an amateur American polish, however my guess would be tight itame. There are no problems visible. Although the nakago looks earlier, my feeling is that this is later Edo. WWII army tsuka; leather covered shirasaya; a good iron Awa Shoami tsuba, signed Shoami, iron and shakudo takazogan, and gold nunome. There are good tekotsu visible on the surface. Most of the pictures are from Andy and can be found at this link: http://www.nihonto.us/MUMEI%20KATANA%20RV2.htm Asking $2000 shipped CONUS. 1 Quote

Babu Posted July 22, 2020 Report Posted July 22, 2020 Can you provide a picture of the sugata and kissaki please. This would help. Quote
Taz575 Posted July 22, 2020 Author Report Posted July 22, 2020 Kissaki pictures: Some pics of the blade and tsuka. The tsuka looks to be thin leather under the wrap, not rayskin. The blade shows a lot of activity despite the sandpaper polish. I was going to have Woody Hall open a window on this blade and have it restored, but I don't have the funds at this time due to my upcoming wedding. The original post has a pic of the overall sugata. I can try to take another picture in the next few days to see if I can get a better sugata pic. I will not ship international; shipping services have been a nightmare in the CONUS as is and I don't want to take the chance of shipping this one international. Quote
Taz575 Posted August 29, 2020 Author Report Posted August 29, 2020 Down to $1500 shipped CONUS, no international shipping! Quote
cuttingedge59 Posted August 30, 2020 Report Posted August 30, 2020 Tim, No international shipping is really limiting your market but i sure you are aware of that. As a matter of interest i shipped a tanto to the states a month or so ago and it took longer to leave NZ than it did to get to the consignee. Chris NZ 1 Quote
ChrisAWilson Posted August 31, 2020 Report Posted August 31, 2020 I'd really like to have this just hate to max a card out to get it, trying to pay it down from the last one I bought!!! Thinking hard on it though. Quote
Taz575 Posted September 1, 2020 Author Report Posted September 1, 2020 I understand Chris, but I have had extremely bad experiences with International shipping in the past. Our Postal System is really screwed up now in the US; packages are getting delayed, lost, damaged, etc, even regular mail. Almost 10% of our wedding invitations never made it to the people. Even thru the polish (if I call it that) that is has on it currently, there is a ton of activity in the blade. It will look awesome polished out, I just don't have the funds at this time with getting married and everything going on. I may be putting up another katana (Iehira Kashu 2nd Gen) and a Wak in the next few days as well. Quote
ChrisAWilson Posted September 1, 2020 Report Posted September 1, 2020 Tim I know some people might consider Oklahoma a foreign country but last time I checked we were still pretty much in the middle of the ole U S of A. but I noticed that cutting-edge is also a Chris I'll quit trying to be funny!!! MHC Posted September 1, 2020 Report Posted September 1, 2020 Well decisions, decisions..... The current price vs the condition of the "polish" seems about right for a fixer-upper Mumie blade. However there are 3 things holding me back, 1.) I'm not a fan of Bohi (personal visual appeal thing). 2.) The Koshirae is not really my taste (WWII gunto style), tsuba is tired but has merit. 3.) The tip of the Kissaki is broken off ...just enough...to require a fare amount of metal removal by a polisher to bring it back...maybe too much?? So it all comes down to cost vs equity vs desire. I guess I'll wait to see your other possible offerings? Just to add more decisions to the mix, yeh that'll help the situation..... Mark Quote
