Tom Darling Posted December 9, 2019 Report Posted December 9, 2019 Jeremiah, These gents have no bones to pick. Yamoto and Kizu Yasu assisted the Shinsa team. You're doubting their authority to have an opinion, right! These four are a shinsa. My Sony Cyber-shot camera is not working at this present time. You'll have to be a little patient on the photos and you will not be disappointed. Peace. Tom D. PS: The post of #7 resembles mine the closest. . Quote

I remember Darcy's excellent article on placement, but can't remember which smith it dealt with. Have to go look it up again It's this one but unfortunately this article is full of errors http://www.nihontomessageboard.com/mei_exercise.html Quote
b.hennick Posted December 9, 2019 Report Posted December 9, 2019 I, for one, would like to read your views on Darcy's post. Please point out the errors to me and others who are interested. Quote
Jacques Posted December 9, 2019 Report Posted December 9, 2019 Errors are 1 - Location of mei is not based on mekugi-ana but centred on nakago shinogi 2 - Darcy confuses Shodai mei, early nidai mei and late nidai mei. Quote
b.hennick Posted December 9, 2019 Report Posted December 9, 2019 Thank you Jacques. I hope to study this soon. Quote
Jacques Posted December 9, 2019 Report Posted December 9, 2019 How to recognize shodai and nidai Tadatsuna when they signed the same way. Quote
Alex A Posted December 9, 2019 Report Posted December 9, 2019 Good exercise Ed. Lets face it, its not an exact science, only a robot could pull off the exact same mei year in and year out, which is what I think some folk expect to see. 2 Quote
Tom Darling Posted December 9, 2019 Report Posted December 9, 2019 Dear Gentlemen, After reviewing the characters of Shoshin Masahide under magnifying glass. I came to final conclusion that it is not # 7, but 5=8 Shoshin. Jussi, Jean, Jeramiah, Ian all got it right. Hallelujah. Peace. Tom D. Quote
Ed Posted December 9, 2019 Author Report Posted December 9, 2019 #1 & #4 are the only two which I was not able to get copies of the papers. The were listed on reputable Japanese web site, but take that as you will. As stated previously, #7 is still unknown. Attached are the papers for 2,3,5,6,8. These are all SHOSHIN!!! Tom, what's the deal? You have had your sword long enough for Yumoto, Caldwell, etc., to look at it and you don't have a photo of the mei ????? 3 Quote
Tom Darling Posted December 10, 2019 Report Posted December 10, 2019 Ed, You're way off course. Do i have to be asked twice to post the Masahide picture when I have already answered your question. a bit redundant. Your undue remarks raising suspicion and doubt is uncalled for. I feel an air of unfriendliness, calm down. Christmas is near and you'll get your present. Peace. Regards, Tom D. Quote
Alex A Posted December 10, 2019 Report Posted December 10, 2019 This thread reminds me of the time i was looking over the mei of Enomoto Sadayoshi, noticed so many differences over his long career Quote
Ed Posted December 10, 2019 Author Report Posted December 10, 2019 Tom, I don’t feel that I am way off course. You have been asked to provide a photo 2-3 times, which you agreed to do. Yet, the only thing provided so far has been excuses. As far as raising doubt or suspicion, you managed that on your own. My Christmas present? Your condescending remarks are uncalled for and definitely produce a feeling of unfriendliness. Perhaps that is your way of justifying your inability to produce a photo. ?? Post a photo, or don’t, it really makes me no difference. 1 Quote
Brian Posted December 10, 2019 Report Posted December 10, 2019 Ed, no good deed goes unpunished right? Don't stress over Tom. We appreciate the effort and exercise and look forward to more. NMB has its fair share of eccentrics who have neurons firing differently. Don't let it get to you.Like to get Christian and Tom to have a long conversation sometime. 7 Quote
Dahlia Posted April 24, 2020 Report Posted April 24, 2020 Firstly I think that would be number 7... Because the strokes look really different and the engraving looks hard... And that only Tantou here... Quote
