Steffieeee Posted November 27, 2019 Report Posted November 27, 2019 Does anyone have any examples of old hilts, fittings that would have been used muromachi and earlier. I think the style of handle was very different but it's really hard to see any examples of originals. Old fuschi , i guess they are extremely rare because of the successive remounting of these things through the generations Quote

rkg Posted November 27, 2019 Report Posted November 27, 2019 OK, how about this - Nambokucho period tsuka, seppa, and habaki... Note that the big seppa are deformed because there was a nerikawa tsuba on the piece and the leather apparently swelled before it came apart/disintegrated: I have more images, but not the time to post process them (better). I've posted tachi tsuba, nerikawa tsuba, etc. before... Best, rkg (Richard George) Quote

Guido Posted November 27, 2019 Report Posted November 27, 2019 OK, how about this - Nambokucho period tsuka, ... Interesting, that's almost identical to the one I posted 2 1/2 years ago: http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/21438-regular-samurai-koto-koshirae/?hl=tsuka&do=findComment&comment=220811 Quote
O-Midare Posted November 28, 2019 Report Posted November 28, 2019 (edited) Here is a fairly old one (Kamakura era). Apparently the silk on the saya is original. Edited November 28, 2019 by O-Midare Quote
Steffieeee Posted November 28, 2019 Author Report Posted November 28, 2019 amazing. shame no pic of the pommel ( unsure of Japanese word). Quote

Steffieeee Posted November 28, 2019 Author Report Posted November 28, 2019 Very nice. So I've only just realised that all those ww2 and similar military mounts are directly copying these very early sword mounts. The end cap of the kashira with the ring through the hole etc 1 Quote
