Vermithrax16 Posted November 25, 2019 Report Posted November 25, 2019 I have been looking for a whale themed piece for a long time. They are indeed rare. This one is up now at Touken Matsumoto: https://www.touken-matsumoto.jp/eng/product_details_e.php?prod_no=KOZ-1796 So hang ups are: - can the kozuka be removed from the gatana? Maybe it's stuck? - the dragon add on motif seems out of character for whale themed pieces I have seen Just sharing a few thoughts. Quote
TETSUGENDO Posted November 25, 2019 Report Posted November 25, 2019 Jeremiah, I think it's an excellent example, from the bashing at the mouth of the kozuka it appears to be possibly soldered though, if it were stuck it would have likely come free. As for the dual motif, I think it makes the piece more interesting. -S- 1 Quote

Guido Posted November 25, 2019 Report Posted November 25, 2019 No need to speculate, just send them an email - they speak English, and are generally very friendly and helpful. 1 Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted November 25, 2019 Report Posted November 25, 2019 That's a whale of a price, too! Quote
mareo1912 Posted November 25, 2019 Report Posted November 25, 2019 Generelly speaking I like the kozuka, especially the whale-eye and wave work, but the dragon seems somewhat off in terms of execution. Also some condition issues... Quote
Stephen Posted November 25, 2019 Report Posted November 25, 2019 seems off because its not a dragon, its a fish with a dragon head. also known as a whale killer http://www.onmarkproductions.com/html/shachihoko.html 1 Quote
