vajo Posted November 21, 2019 Report Posted November 21, 2019 I found this tsuba on bonhams. It was sold for 3.500 GBP (4000 EUR). 6 Quote
Steves87 Posted November 21, 2019 Report Posted November 21, 2019 I really like that! The red tip end of sword makes me happy 3 Quote
Alex A Posted November 21, 2019 Report Posted November 21, 2019 Hi Chris, funny one for me carving on tsuba. Sometimes, I look at a piece that no doubt needed a lot of skill to create, but still is empty of life. If you look at some Goto tsuba, think you might get what im trying to say. 2 Quote
vajo Posted November 21, 2019 Author Report Posted November 21, 2019 I know what you mean Alex i see it. It is well made and a lot of details are in the tsuba but it is a little lifeless. 2 Quote
Geraint Posted November 21, 2019 Report Posted November 21, 2019 Dear All. I certainly have no wish to spoil anyone's enjoyment of this tsuba so if you love it don't read on. Look at the shape of the anvil, look at the way Munechika's hand grasps that rather odd looking hammer, look at the way the clouds are rendered, particularly on the reverse around the fox, never mind the fox, look at the hammer on the reverse. As far as composition goes, the tsuba was clearly never intended to be mounted but I think the face would have benefited from a seppa dai. If it is to your taste then you are not alone, at the hammer price was 4k Euro then with commission etc it will have cost someone the better part of 5k. It's an impressive piece of work, nice theme, nice tsuba in some ways but not a masterpiece, surely? All the best. 5 Quote
vajo Posted November 21, 2019 Author Report Posted November 21, 2019 Geraint all what you said is right. The tsuba was made 1968 so i think it was not made for mounting and the price is crazy. I wouldn't buy it because it is what Alex said a lifeless but good work in my eyes. But it was my intent to hear your meanings. Overall it is in the collectors taste. 2 Quote
