Ruroni_Kenshin Posted November 15, 2019 Report Posted November 15, 2019 Hello Everyone I am new to the world of Nihonto, got bitten by the bug on my trip to Kyoto and Tokyo last week. A friend of mine took me to a sword shop in Ginza called "Seiyudo" and I was instantly hooked. Unfortunately most everything at the store was a bit above my budget so I left Ginza with a vigor to learn more. I have been studying online and watching youtube videos for about a week now and I have fallen in love with the Choji hamon I am looking for my very first sword and I have stumbled upon this store and wanted to get some opinions from more experienced Nihonto collectors here. https://www.touken-matsumoto.jp/eng/product_details_e.php?prod_no=KA-0272 my top budget is around 3.5k for my first sword and desperately need an NDTHK HOZON tied to the sword since I have absolutely no clue what to look for. Thank You for all your help Quote
Alex A Posted November 15, 2019 Report Posted November 15, 2019 Its at the better end of the mass produced swords, nice that its signed and dated and has Hozen. It all depends what you want. Its a decent first Katana, for similar money you could get a wak with far better workmanship. 1 Quote
Rivkin Posted November 15, 2019 Report Posted November 15, 2019 Its signed and papered, but the work is rough, inconsistent and unabmitious. The seller has a few good pieces though. Kirill R. 1 Quote

Ken-Hawaii Posted November 15, 2019 Report Posted November 15, 2019 Chibiunko, if that's your name, have you spent $100 on some books to study? There are lots of generations of Sukesada, many of which are much more representative of Bizen blades, but, you'll never know that unless you study before plunking down hard-earned cash for what I agree is a mediocre blade. 2 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted November 15, 2019 Report Posted November 15, 2019 Ken, 'chibiunko' means 'little sh1t', so I doubt that is his real name!!! 2 Quote
Ruroni_Kenshin Posted November 15, 2019 Author Report Posted November 15, 2019 Thank you everyone for your replies. I have a book coming from amazon “The sword of Japan” by Bott. I will check out some works by Sukesada smiths of Bizen. Please feel free to PM me with any advice or guidance. Thanks again. Quote
