Brian Posted November 5, 2019 Report Posted November 5, 2019 That's what you get when a Nigerian 10 year old gets hold of a nail and a hammer.Don't think there is a way to translate that. Maybe it reads "You have inherited $10 million....please send bank details...." 3 Quote
Ray Singer Posted November 5, 2019 Report Posted November 5, 2019 Soshu ju Tsunahiro. Brian's comment above says it all. A very poorly signed gimei. 4 Quote
loiner1965 Posted November 5, 2019 Author Report Posted November 5, 2019 many thanks gentlemen......i thought it was just junk chinese Quote
ROKUJURO Posted November 5, 2019 Report Posted November 5, 2019 This could well be an authentic blade, "signed" in an attempt to raise interest and value. To say more, we should see more pictures of the blade, but then tip-up! 1 Quote
Brian Posted November 6, 2019 Report Posted November 6, 2019 Agree..was only commenting on the mei, not the nakago. Has every chance at being a legit Nihonto from the little we can see there, only mei added later. Quote
loiner1965 Posted November 6, 2019 Author Report Posted November 6, 2019 https://www.spandaumilitariashop.com/antique-Japanese-tanto-5/ blade is genuine just dodgy mei no interest in buying at all just was curious......i have enough swords lol 1 Quote
ROKUJURO Posted November 6, 2019 Report Posted November 6, 2019 This is a very late souvenir item for tourists. Gruesome! Quote
Ray Singer Posted November 6, 2019 Report Posted November 6, 2019 I am not so sure that this is authentic. The style is based on the hammered brass koshirae that you see on export pieces for tourists, however even in those the execution of the aoi is typically done better than what we see here. An example of one of those koshirae below, but we have discussed these here in other threads. http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/1762-i-have-two-old-sword-help-me-figure-them-out/ The geometry of the blade itself is off, with the shinogi-ji being more narrow than what we would see in an authentic but broken sword. The hamon is also off. I suspect that the entire piece is a fake. 1 Quote
