This is an exceptional 67cm Bizen tachi by Bizen Morishige. It is ubu, though a bit machi-okuri, signed Bishu Osafune Morishige. The NBTHK Kicho token kanteisho (very early papers dated Showa 32) does not specify a generation, however I would lean towards this being late Nambokucho into early Muromachi. The generation which worked during Oei continued to sign tachi-mei during that time period. The mei is very clear, the nakago well preserved and the sword itself is very healthy. The hamon is a very beautiful and active choji-ba with kinsuji and sunagashi running though. It is full of naturalistic variation which one can enjoy for hours without tiring, and continue to provide new features to enjoy. The jihada is itame with utsuri. There is a lovely two piece habaki of light gold color, which has been made to fit the bohi. The shirasaya is likewise fitted to the bo-hi in the tsuka. This sword shows why koto Bizen blades are such a popular target for collectors and will be a joy to own for the person who adds this to their collection.

$6,500 (plus shipping and PayPal). Any questions, please just let me know.

Kind regards,

Ray

Very nice, Ray, & I can't remember seeing a habaki that was made to fit the bo-hi. Must have been a really long blade when ubu - what is the overall length? I assume the 67 cm is hacho.

Like the sword Ray!

Ken, Ray had another sword a while back that had a habaki that fit the bo-hi, was spectacular.

Thanks you for the kind words on the Omiya :). And as far as fitting to horimono, I have a koshirae I will share in a separate thread where even the saya has been contoured inside to fit the blade's bo-hi.

The owner has asked me to offer a steep reduction on a couple of swords in order to raise funds quickly. Beautiful tachi, beautiful workmanship, clear mei, nice shirasaya and habaki. Nothing not to like here.

$4,750 (plus shipping and PayPal).

Another, and final, reduction to $4,600 (plus shipping and PayPal). This is as far as the owner will go and the Morishige will return to the owner soon if it has not sold. If someone has been saving for that special sword, and has an interest in an ubu signed and dated koto Bizen tachi, the opportunity is passing. Any questions, please let me know...

Best regards,

Ray
