Back in the 1950s my aunt gave me her stamp collection books from elderly relatives from the 1930s. Too young to appreciate properly, sadly. No idea what happened to them.

Since then I went through time-of-life phases of collecting old weapons, then coins, and then Japanese things such as Andon/Shokudai lamps, coins again, Netsuke, Tosogu, matchlocks and matchlock accessories (powder flasks and fire-lighting kits). Nothing really seriously, of course. It was more like these things sought a temporary home and collected themselves. :welcome:

This is one of my problems....I collect a lot of things.  Original comic book art (https://www.comicartfans.com/galleryroom.asp?gsub=200036), old paperback book original art, Mark Twain 1st editions (I don't go for pure 1st printings as they get too pricey and they are the same books...just not the first off the press), bronze statues, antique political cartoon art, antique lithographs, other random 1st editions of books I enjoy, Uncle Sam art, Lady Justice art, Mark Twain/Lincoln busts and any bust by Robert Berks, certain graphic novels, Weird one but statues or medical models involving hands or eyes, scrimshaw but I've only come across one piece I felt was actual art rather than touristy, some folk art, antiques regarding John Law the Scottish financiers and gambler from the late 1700s, don't know why but Napolean III coins and really old theater tokens, Don Quixote statues and books, used to collect and still have lots of old video games but those got expensive so I moved on at least 12 years ago....there's more and I might start collecting something new tomorrow for all I know.

I collect WWII patches but I'll snag whatever I come across and can afford. Being a 24 year old collector with a crappy job its hard to compete with some of the high dollar items. That's why I like patches. Its easy for them to go under the radar on eBay. Here's a peak into my room with some of my stuff.

For a guy with a small hobby-budget you've done quite well John!!!  Nicely displayed too.

Thanks Bruce! It's the result of almost ten years trinket hunting.

Old horror model kits.

(After all, I was 'Monster Kid of the Year 2012'.)

Also, kits of WWI and WWII aircraft.

Books (thousands).

Japanese ceramics, specifically chawan.

I do.

Didn't know what that was.  After a google search, now I understand why my wife's sister brought us one from her visit to Japan years ago.  Not at home, but when I get a chance, I'll post a pic.

I like to collect all sorts of things. Mostly antiques, nerdy stuff, and hand-made items.

I also enjoy printed media and militaria quite a bit.

Here’s a map of 1942 Japan that I found at an antique store recently for $10. Probably printed long after the war, but still makes a nice display. It shows how long it takes for steamships and airplanes to travel. The reverse has a world map and ally/axis country populations.

Hope the photos are clear enough. It was tough because the frame adds a glare and I struggled to eliminate my own shadow during my hasty photo shoot :dunno:

Hello,

my name is Sascha and I'm from Germany. Until now I've always been a silent reader, but now I'm coming out a bit.

I started collecting militaria from 1800 to 1945 in 2015.  The focus was on medals, decorations, documents and photos.

As it is with us collectors, it has degenerated a bit, who doesn't know that 😉

In the meantime, I have sold some of it and the Nihontovirus has infected me and thanks to a long-time collector and friend, I have already been able to put together a beautiful collection.

Here are a few pictures of my collection at that time.

At the moment I am collecting the highest combat award of the German Wehrmacht, the melee clasp all 3 class bronze, silver and gold.

I hope you like it..... Greetings Sascha

I've been a collectorall my life-stamps, coins, old motorcycles, militaria, Japanese swords, etc. One of my other interests is finding sets of photo slides taken in Asia during the 1940s-'70s. Usually taken by US Servicemen using the best film ever made, "red border" Kodachrome slide film. I scan them and put them in albums on my Flickr page. Color film from this period had to be sent back to Kodak for processing, so color images of places like Japan and Korea are rare-most people living there could not afford the film. Many of my albums have been featured in Asian TV programs, museum exhibitions, etc-many viewers have told me what an amazing thing it is to see their countries in full color-they had no idea such photos existed. Unfortunately, since I started doing this, others have gotten the same idea, and good photo sets on ebay have become shockingly expensive-as in thousands of dollars! (I suspect institutions are buying them). Anyway, here are my albums. click on each image to see the full set behind it.

That is extraordinary to say the least. Have you fired the Tankgewehr? Do you happen to own any original WWI scoped rifles?

Nope, never fired either of them. I live on an island which has become so overdeveloped there is nowhere left to shoot. A far cry from the days when I could step out my back door and commence firing. I don’t worry about it, I had plenty of automatic fire back in the day with M16s and M60s.

Never got too into sniper rifles, although I have owned a scoped G43, a K98k with the Zf41, and a K98k high turret that was missing the scope. Sniper rifles are expensive, there is a lot to know about them, and they are a minefield of fakery.
I decided I already have enough rabbit holes to go down.

British Hi Fi systems, (they sound better), and old vinyl records, (analog recordings if possible).

Neil, I also pieced together a sound system of an old record player, amp, receiver and speakers to play vinyl....plus cat.  My speaker placement isn't any good but overall it's actually quite a good sounding system.
