The Tanimura-ha & Shimomura-ha are the two main lines of Eishin-Ryu iaido (one of the ryuha my wife & I train in). Iaido is, indeed, "a solitary journey pursuing spirit, heart, and courage."

 

Kyoshi is a shogo title, usually awarded at the rokudan level, & (loosely) means that the holder is an excellent teacher, as well as holding dan rank.
