Christophe Posted September 19, 2019 Report Posted September 19, 2019 Hello everyone. Could anyone help me about a papered wakizashi that I was offered? I will have some questions about him: - Is the translation of the mei correct? 濃州関兼景 ⟹ noshu ju seki kanekage and if that it is not a gimei sword, is it okay to think it is a modern minor smith? I did not find any origami that correspond to this signature. - Is this kantesho authentic? It's look like a Tokubetsu Hozon from the NBTHK but no stamp or remainder of the registration number on the left of the document. I thank you in advance for the help you can give me. Christophe Quote
Surfson Posted September 19, 2019 Report Posted September 19, 2019 I think you have it right Christophe. Papers look ok to me. I don't think that the sword is modern, but the papers don't assign an era. Has a shinto feel to me, and they assign it to the shodai. There was a line of them that worked in late koto/early shinto. Nobody Posted September 19, 2019 Report Posted September 19, 2019 That is not a wakizashi but a katana. The correct translation does no include “ju”. 濃州関兼景 – Noshu Seki Kanekage The paper says that the katana is Shinto. The paper looks authentic. However, that is not Tokubetsu Hozon but mere Hozon. 5 Quote
