Pete Klein Posted September 12, 2019 Report Posted September 12, 2019 Has anyone heard if the Tampa 2020 Token Kai has been scheduled? Thanks. Quote
b.hennick Posted September 12, 2019 Report Posted September 12, 2019 I heard that it will be in Atlanta George March 7-9. This has not been confirmed. Quote
Ray Singer Posted September 12, 2019 Report Posted September 12, 2019 Very interesting, I had not heard that Barry. Is the word that the show is still being managed by Bill Green? Quote
b.hennick Posted September 12, 2019 Report Posted September 12, 2019 The person who told me did not mention who is running the show. Quote
Grey Doffin Posted September 13, 2019 Report Posted September 13, 2019 I told Barry what I had heard and when I have confirmation I will post it here; should be soon. Grey 1 Quote
Soshin Posted September 16, 2019 Report Posted September 16, 2019 I had a table this year but I have not heard anything about a 2020 Tampa show. Quote
Grey Doffin Posted September 18, 2019 Report Posted September 18, 2019 Hi guys, It is official: March 5th (5:00 PM for dealer setup) or March 6 through the 8th, 2020 at the Westin Atlanta Airport hotel in Atlanta, GA. Let's all of us plan on attending and keep the winter show running and strong. Grey 1 Quote
Ray Singer Posted September 18, 2019 Report Posted September 18, 2019 Thank you for the update Grey. Who is the showrunner? Quote
raynor Posted September 18, 2019 Report Posted September 18, 2019 Unrelated but have anyone gotten their origami from the Tampa Shinsa earlier this year? Quote
Grey Doffin Posted September 18, 2019 Report Posted September 18, 2019 Bill & Natalya Green are in charge. The show's website hasn't been updated yet; once it has, if i remember, I'll post a link here. Grey Quote
Ed Posted September 18, 2019 Report Posted September 18, 2019 Atlanta?? The end of a long tradition in Tampa. That borders on Sacrilege 1 Quote
Stephen Posted September 18, 2019 Report Posted September 18, 2019 kinda quiles me ever wanting to make a winter show again, one of the points of getting away for frozen Iowa, sigh. Quote
Peter Bleed Posted September 18, 2019 Report Posted September 18, 2019 There has been lots of history to the Tampa show. There are reasons why it was there and a success, but time and communities change. The community was good. And I have always enjoyed that - cheesey - auction. The banquet was IMHO always too costly - and way too calorific. But THE thing that made the Tampa Show a success was the ease of getting there - you never had to leave the Airport. Atlanta is a central spot. It might work as a replacement. Please keep us informed. Peter Quote
DRDave Posted September 19, 2019 Report Posted September 19, 2019 Central? Talking about this one? Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted September 19, 2019 Report Posted September 19, 2019 Ha, ha. When you look at airport traffic, Atlanta is about as central as you can get. Quote
Soshin Posted September 19, 2019 Report Posted September 19, 2019 Thanks for the updated information Grey. Atlanta would be a easier trip for me with a cheaper flight. Quote
Apercus Posted September 19, 2019 Report Posted September 19, 2019 This weekend is the Japanese Festival in Atlanta. If a show was held during this same weekend or in conjunction with the Japanese festival the attendance would be far greater than average. Just a thought. Shannon Hogg Quote
Stephen Posted September 19, 2019 Report Posted September 19, 2019 jumped flights at the ATL no thanks not a fan of that airport Quote

Stephen Posted September 21, 2019 Report Posted September 21, 2019 $225 a table? My how times have changed. It would take a very good show to cover cost as some have at least three tables. Not adding the rest always was a rich boys game. Quote
Pete Klein Posted September 21, 2019 Author Report Posted September 21, 2019 Stephen - you need to go to the Chicago Show. It's a lot closer to home for you and is actually quite reasonable. http://www.chicagoswordshow.com/ 1 Quote
Stephen Posted September 21, 2019 Report Posted September 21, 2019 Yes Pete its on my want to list..if the legs quite being a problem. One hour of driving my gbaby to school n me back home i can hardly stand when i get out of the truck. Quote
Jussi Ekholm Posted September 21, 2019 Report Posted September 21, 2019 I've never been in US shows but I am wondering aren't the shows really close to each other as there is about a month between the shows? Quote
Pete Klein Posted September 21, 2019 Author Report Posted September 21, 2019 Jussi - yes, that is a problem. The Tampa show used to be in early February so it was two and a half months to Chicago which wasn't all that bad. At some point this is going to turn into just two shows as this has gotten unrealistic. The Tampa show has been fading for years and it probably should have been moved to an earlier month 'but' then you get issues with winter storms causing travel problems. There are a lot of East Coast people who won't go to the San Fran show due to the distance and now the costs are getting up there as well. We'll just have to see how the market decides. Stephen - yeah, I understand totally. I had to retire recently because of similar issues but also with my back, neck and shoulders. I couldn't do it any more. Dentistry is a Mother XXXXXX! I stopped driving to Tampa five or six years ago because my legs would go numb after three hours. This is not conducive to safe driving...! LOL The nice thing was that I could fly there in 45 minutes and the price was inexpensive so well worth it. 2 Quote
