vajo Posted September 6, 2019 Report Posted September 6, 2019 What you think about this Hada? 3 Quote
paulb Posted September 6, 2019 Report Posted September 6, 2019 Attached below some images from a naginata naoshi attributed to Shikkake for comparison 1 Quote
vajo Posted September 6, 2019 Author Report Posted September 6, 2019 Thanks Paul. Its hard to compare for me. If i look to the older kamakura yamato tradition schools these are very close. So i found some pictures of the senjuen work that would nearly fit. The most Shikkake swords i found have a wide midare hamon. Some of the older pictures in the books of Shikkake shown sugha-ba hamon and dark jihada but i cant see the hada in detail on the pictures. This is attributed to Senjuen. 1 Quote
vajo Posted September 6, 2019 Author Report Posted September 6, 2019 Paul i found this picture here in the NMB of your shikkake sword. That looks more closer to mine? Quote
paulb Posted September 6, 2019 Report Posted September 6, 2019 Hi Chris Here is another image from the Shikkake blade which shows some of the darker steel I think you may be referring to. Also note that the masame increases and runs closer to the hamon. This is mentioned as a Shikkake feature but to be honest the same is also said of Senjuin and Tegai so certainly not unique to them. As you mentioned I think the 5 Yamato schools were very much closer in features than you might first think when reaing some of the standard texts. Differences if there at all are very subtle. Brent Tanner did an excellent comparative write up on differnt Yamato blades he has studied in depth. You can find it in the articles section of the Token of GB website. 2 Quote
vajo Posted September 7, 2019 Author Report Posted September 7, 2019 Thanks Paul. I take a look. Update. That is a very good article Paul and very interesting. 1 Quote
Jean Posted September 7, 2019 Report Posted September 7, 2019 Furthermore some smiths in the Rai school forged with masame along the hada, kunitoshi and above all, Ryokai being the top among them 2 Quote
vajo Posted September 7, 2019 Author Report Posted September 7, 2019 Jean, whats your opinion about the sword? Quote
Rivkin Posted September 7, 2019 Report Posted September 7, 2019 Very personal opinion - despite sugata matching severely cut down old sword, the rough broad features of hada to me suggest Muromachi. It also does not have nie that would truly stand out it seems. Sengaku Satsuma Naminohira would be my likely erroneous guess. Kirill R. 1 Quote
vajo Posted September 7, 2019 Author Report Posted September 7, 2019 Hi Kirill thank for you answer. I have tried to make another picture. Nie is there but i must play with the light, that is not easy to photograph. 1 Quote
16k Posted September 7, 2019 Report Posted September 7, 2019 Well, Chris, as the least expert on this board, I can only tell you that, to my profane eyes, the Hada on these swords look very different. That said, I can’t say no more... Quote
vajo Posted September 7, 2019 Author Report Posted September 7, 2019 Hi JP, for me it looks more to Senjuen. But as i said, it is very hard to make a good picture. Quote
vajo Posted September 8, 2019 Author Report Posted September 8, 2019 I compare with that topic. It looks very close to me. http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/27263-tachi-attributed-to-yamato-senjuin-kamakura/ 1 Quote
