Logan09 Posted September 2, 2019 Report Posted September 2, 2019 Does anyone know of someone I can send a blade to in the U.S to get a rough appraisal on? The blade is in need of a polish(its frosted looking)but the Hamon is visible enough to be seen. I have been getting asked if I want to sell, which has never happened before on here so I am assuming it may have some value and is worthy of a polish and being sent off to shinsa. I don't foresee myself getting a polish done etc, so I'd like to pass it on to someone who will appreciate it more. Thank you. Quote
ChrisW Posted September 2, 2019 Report Posted September 2, 2019 Your best bet to get it looked at is a show. You can probably ask several reputable dealers for their impression on it there. What blade are you talking about also? Have we seen it here? Quote

I have only shown a couple photos to get age and was told Nanbokucho. http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/29579-thoughts-on-possible-age-of-this-blade/ The closest sword show appears to be in Chicago and that's 400miles from me. So, that's out of the question. Quote
Stephen Posted September 2, 2019 Report Posted September 2, 2019 Which direction from the windy city? we have Grey north an Mark in Ohio Quote
Logan09 Posted September 2, 2019 Author Report Posted September 2, 2019 I already know a show will be out of the question, I would have to travel at least 5hrs to go to one and working 6 days a week it's a no go. Although I know it would be the best route to take. Quote

Ray Singer Posted September 3, 2019 Report Posted September 3, 2019 Send it to Robert Benson for an in hand evaluation. Togishi.com 1 Quote
Logan09 Posted September 3, 2019 Author Report Posted September 3, 2019 Thank you ray. I will try to get some decent photos of it as well. I didn't know if forum evaluations were allowed. Quote
Ray Singer Posted September 3, 2019 Report Posted September 3, 2019 Forum evaluations are provided often, but nothing beats an in-hand assessment and Benson is one of the individuals I trust most for that. Quote
Grey Doffin Posted September 3, 2019 Report Posted September 3, 2019 Hi Logan, I agree with Ray; send it to Bob Benson for an appraisal. Pictures posted here might work a bit but only in hand appraisal means anything. I'm in Duluth, if that helps, but Bob knows more than I do. Grey Quote
Tom Darling Posted September 8, 2019 Report Posted September 8, 2019 Provide some decent photos of the tang. Does it have a mei? Peace. Tom D. Quote
Logan09 Posted September 8, 2019 Author Report Posted September 8, 2019 It is unsigned. I sent the blade off to Bob Benson. I couldn't get any photos I would call good enough to post on here. I will follow up on here even if it turns out to be junk. 1 Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted September 8, 2019 Report Posted September 8, 2019 Bob's good, but expect him to be very blunt on the condition of your blade. Quote
Stephen Posted September 8, 2019 Report Posted September 8, 2019 Hope Bobby doesn't tire of NBM recommendations. Hope hope hope. Quote

Ray Singer Posted September 8, 2019 Report Posted September 8, 2019 I don't see that Stephen is complaining about anything. The concern appears to be that Bob might feel inundated with too many NMB referrals. I have always found Bob to be patient and generous with his time though, and would not worry. I expect he will give insightful feedback, but as said above one must be prepared to receive the bad with the good. 2 Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted September 8, 2019 Report Posted September 8, 2019 Ever since Woody departed for Las Vegas, Bob looks a bit older. 1 Quote
