1tallsword Posted August 29, 2019 Report Posted August 29, 2019 good day gents, usually not one for drama or a rant but thought i would share my recent personal experience with ebay seller kanetoyo2666 i recently was the top bidder and winner of one of his katana which i got a deal price on i thought. before i knew it the transaction was cancelled by him with no contact or explanation to me. when i contacted him his first reaction was to lie, he said it was dammaged? ya right i thought! long tale that is, i knew he didnt like the sale price and cancelled. i replied and stated i know it was because of the sale price and maybe in future you should put a reserve. he wrote back and and admitted he did not like the sale price and thats why he was not completing transaction. i never leave a negative but felt with the deception and lieing i had no choice and save someone the grief in the future. so i left a factual negative. he put in to ebay for a review of feedback , once again stating lies that he had contacted me before cancelling. ebay looked and seen no such messages and sided with me. long story short and the reason im putting this here is for the protection of fellow members. fact is if he is willing to tell tales and lie about messages and being lost then he is capable of lieing about the condition or authenticity of a blade.. i know see the blade listed by him on ebay for a buy it now a couple thousand higher...lol Quote
ChrisW Posted August 29, 2019 Report Posted August 29, 2019 Shameful, disgusting behavior. If he had any sense of decency, he would have chalked it up as a learning experience and honored his seller's agreement. But as you said, now you have doubts if the blade was as he said! So maybe you dodged a bullet there? I would say, take the money you would have spent there and invest in a blade from one of the sellers here. They are far more reputable and forthcoming about their stuff. Or sellers like Ed at Yakiba or Nihonto Art, etc. Quote
Curran Posted August 29, 2019 Report Posted August 29, 2019 Blast from the past for me. 15 years later and he is still actively selling on eBay. Quote
ChrisW Posted August 29, 2019 Report Posted August 29, 2019 Goes to show some people never change. Quote
Ed Posted August 29, 2019 Report Posted August 29, 2019 Not sure if Kanetoyo is a different seller from Kanetoyo2666, but Kenetoyo is a member here. Haven't seen him post in a while though. My feeling is that part of the problem is the differences in how Ebay is set up versus YahooJP. Ebay is set up for the buyer, when it ends it ends, shill bidding is prohibited, etc.. Not so on YHJP, it is geared more for the seller. All of the things which ebay prohibits are common (much more so than you may think) on YHJP. They have the option of automatic time extensions, so if you think you are sniping a bid, forget it. When you bid, it automatically resets the time to allow more bidding. I have seen this go on for what seemed like forever. Shill bidding is the norm as well. In order to get the price up, the sellers either have multiple accounts or friends keep bidding it up until it reaches the threshold set by the seller. How do I know this you may ask. Simple, watch enough auctions on YHJP, and soon you will notice that some items go way up in price, the auction ends and it appears to have sold. Then a week later, BAM, it is back again by the same seller. YHJP covers itself by using the kanji 終了 which translates to "end". Notice is doesn't say sold (売却済), it says ended. It is the same for something you know sold or the items you see listed again and again and again. A while back, I was watching an item which was re-listed over and over for at least a month. Then I noticed something new in the description. The seller added '売り切ります" (sell out, or I will sell it). Found that humorous Moral of the story, keep in mind their attitude towards online selling is different than ours. 1 Quote
ChrisW Posted August 29, 2019 Report Posted August 29, 2019 Different cultures yes, but that does not shield their actions from the rules of the media they're using to make a sale. When in Rome, as the saying goes. 1 Quote
Ed Posted August 30, 2019 Report Posted August 30, 2019 Oh, I am not condoning any of it, here or there. Quote
peter k Posted August 31, 2019 Report Posted August 31, 2019 yes, ed speaks the truth in regards to yahoo auction of Japan. i'd won half a dozen yahoo auctions in the past two years that were cancelled after auction ended. yahoo Japan allows the practice. it's frustrating when you think you've won a nice item for a great price, only to be messaged that it is no longer for sale... 1 Quote
Barrie B Posted September 15, 2019 Report Posted September 15, 2019 I can reiterate what Ed has said. I have also chased items on YHJP that have not had a bid placed on them for days.. All of a sudden when the auction is ending and I bid, someone shill bids.. This goes on for a while until I think, okay, it is a fair price now, but when they get greedy, I stop. On several occasions 'the shill bidder' has won the auction. Like Ed, I know they have been caught with their own item. Occasionally though, the next morning I'll wake up to an email stating the highest bidder pulled out (surprise surprise..!) and the item is mine. Thankfully I didn't go too high and I actually wanted the item, but their blatant dishonesty is outrageous.. Barrie. 3 Quote
Stephen Posted September 15, 2019 Report Posted September 15, 2019 Barrie when the latter happens are you required to pay? 1 Quote
Barrie B Posted September 16, 2019 Report Posted September 16, 2019 Yup. I paid, but I wasn't trying to jack the price up; I actually wanted those items... Cheers Stephen. Barrie. Quote
