autodex Posted August 15, 2019 Report Posted August 15, 2019 Hello Could someone help me translate these papers? It’s only the fitting no sword. Trying to discern date and what the judgement was and how the fittings are described Quote
Henry Wilson Posted August 15, 2019 Report Posted August 15, 2019 The date seems to be Showa 48 May 5th The verdict seems to be Kanteisho The fittings seem to be described as having an akigane base and are matching. The fact that papers have been issued means the organisation think they are original items and the Koshirae has not been altered. Also, knowing papers they do little else but describe what is there if that helps with translating the exact descriptions of things. Caution! A second opinion would be advisable coz I tend to see what I want rather than what is there when it comes to languages!!! I hope this helps. Quote
Pete Klein Posted August 15, 2019 Report Posted August 15, 2019 Hi Steven - here is a link to the history of NBTHK papers (origami). Your's is apparently Nintaisho which pre-dates the current Hozon, Tokubetsu Hozon, etc. Unfortunately my reading abilities in kanji are not up to a translation but there are those on the board who can assist. http://www.nihontocraft.com/japanese_sword_papers.html 1 Quote
Krystian Posted August 15, 2019 Report Posted August 15, 2019 It looks like Koushuya (Hanamoto-san) auction. I am sure that If you ask him he will translate it for you. Quote
autodex Posted August 15, 2019 Author Report Posted August 15, 2019 Thanks he was able to get back to me and stated the Shinsa date was May 5 1973 and stated the papers are Hozon which I guess he gave the equivalent to Kanteisho Quote
Krystian Posted August 15, 2019 Report Posted August 15, 2019 But It is almost 10 years before Hozon where introduced? I do not understand that..... Quote
autodex Posted August 15, 2019 Author Report Posted August 15, 2019 Even the envelope looks different not sure how he arrived at Hozon Quote
autodex Posted August 16, 2019 Author Report Posted August 16, 2019 Ugh i thought collecting was supposed to be fun!! Getting buried in the minutia Quote
SteveM Posted August 16, 2019 Report Posted August 16, 2019 The paper for the koshirae certifies the fittings as is Tokubetsu Kichō - 特別貴重 - you can see these kanji on the paper itself. Quote
autodex Posted August 16, 2019 Author Report Posted August 16, 2019 Well I decided to move forward with the sale. I am going to try to just enjoy the piece and stop obsessing over an opinion...odds are the papers are good considering it's an unsigned piece. Since I dont have access to anyone who could evaluate the fittings in person there is no way to determine if the papers were compromised so I will just enjoy the art. Quote
Henry Wilson Posted August 17, 2019 Report Posted August 17, 2019 For what it’s worth, from what I can see, it looks like a nice koshirae that seems to be in its original state. Quote
