Shugyosha Posted July 30, 2019 Report Posted July 30, 2019 Hi Steven, It might save someone some time if you state what information you are looking for specifically? Quote
autodex Posted July 30, 2019 Author Report Posted July 30, 2019 Sure this is a Gendai sword and I am looking for Smith name date and any other info that is stated in the document Quote
uwe Posted July 30, 2019 Report Posted July 30, 2019 1) “Jōshū Iwama Jū Masachika” (常州岩間住正近). Real name “Okashima Fukusaburō”, Shōwa 1926-1989. Date is easy...give it a try! Quote
autodex Posted July 30, 2019 Author Report Posted July 30, 2019 Can you see if this signature matches the name Quote
Mark Posted July 30, 2019 Report Posted July 30, 2019 says Masachika saku.......... not sure that this looks right for a WWII era sword. Looks like Shinsakuto but if so it would be dated (required if made in Japan) Quote
cisco-san Posted July 30, 2019 Report Posted July 30, 2019 Hi, blade is signed Masachika saku (正近作) Mark was faster... :-) Quote
autodex Posted July 30, 2019 Author Report Posted July 30, 2019 I see I don’t not know that about the date saved me from making a bad decision thank you Quote
Shugyosha Posted July 30, 2019 Report Posted July 30, 2019 Hi Steven, This swordsmith was born in 1939, so you are looking at a gendai blade. From Markus Sesko: MASACHIKA (正近), Shōwa (昭和, 1926-1989), Ibaraki – “Jōshū Iwama-jū Masachika” (常州岩間住正近), real name Okashima Fukusaburō (岡島福三郎), born February 26th 1939, student of the 2nd gen. Okashima Masatada (正忠) Edit: if it's by this guy and genuine of course. 1 Quote
autodex Posted July 30, 2019 Author Report Posted July 30, 2019 Yeah the guy either did not know or was not honest, he stated the smith completed the blade during WWII so saved me some time and expense. Quote
