S.Haugtredet Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 Just thought i`d share a nice sword stand with you. You don`t see this kind every day. Just beautiful i think :-) http://www.artswords.com/swordstand.htm Quote
David Flynn Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 One would be scared of scratching it. Pure class Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 indeed a very very nice sword stand... however, just as with the cabinet also posted on here, i have a bit of a problem with the crudeness of the fittings... KM Quote
Brian Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 This is the finest one I have personally ever seen. Owned by a friend here..it is mindlblowing, and perfect condition. Minute inlay detail in mostly mother of pearl. Has to be seen to be believed. Brian Quote
Brian Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 The pics are not great..I willhave to try and take more next time I go there. But you can see the quality of the black laquer just from the reflection of the candle Each perfect tiny flower is made up of many tiny bits of MOP, inlayed perfectly. This is one of his other stands..not as good, but still very very impressive. He was collecting in the good old days, and is not as active now. Quote
Brian Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 He specialised in all Eastern weapons...with an emphasis on Japanese. Just a few more for the guys interested in other Eastern weapons too. This is not even close to the whole collection. I wish I had the money..and was collecting 40 years ago Brian Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 the last pic contains weapons i will NEVER EVER own or want to own.... too dangerous....... i had a KRIS spear once... and was happy when it left the house... so i do hope he performed the proper rituals..... KM Quote
S.Haugtredet Posted October 26, 2006 Author Report Posted October 26, 2006 That is some collection. Always amazing to see collections like this. One "candy" after an other hanging on the wall and in stands all over the place. Liked the sword stands. They looked beautiful Brian :-) Quote
Rabro Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 Truely exceptional !!!! and now I'm seriously jealous. Roger Quote
Justin Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 That's a great display! I'm only a newbie to the sword world, but aren't those blades around the wrong way? I thought the tsuka was always to the left. Please forgive me if this is a naive question. Quote
John A Stuart Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 Hi Justin, This is as I was told. Tsuka to the left when in an harmonius setting and to the right when in a guarded setting. You will see this with more positions when in seiza, all showing various degrees of wariness and respect. It has to do with the readiness with which the sword may be brought to bear. John Quote
S.Haugtredet Posted November 6, 2006 Author Report Posted November 6, 2006 I would guess that the tsuka is to the right of more practical reasons when displayed like this. Collector is probably right handed, so to keep it steady when removed from the wall....well, you get the picture. Just my thought :-) Have a nice day gentlemen! Quote
