eBay item 333270072201.

Anyone know the "expert" that evaluated it? Sure looks like a Chinese made blade with a wire brushed/or etched hamon? Check out how perfectly the Hamachi and Munemachi line up! I honestly don't know how these get so many bids this fast.

Well, I'll stop posting these then. I just figured you never know, it might help someone not make a mistake. Someone might personally know this Mr. Lee as well. I find it strange that someone who has studied in Asian art doesn't know the difference between a fake Chinese made sword and a "Real" Japanese made sword(in this case a Gunto) If mods want to delete it go right ahead.

Logan,

Please DON’T stop posting. It is how we all hone our knowledge base and skills. Honestly, I haven’t seen one quite like this, myself, and have enjoyed looking it over. My gut would be to call it a fake, but I’ve been wrong on some oddball stuff before.

The nakago does look too long, and the kanji work sloppy, but I can’t read them so I don’t even know if they are real or not.

It's certainly fake and I can see how an "expert" who simply translated the tang could verify it, similar to a friend who gets invited around to look at a painting you just bought and confirms it's signed "Rembrandt".

Plus this is quite clear:

I got ya back Stephen.
If we had every fake online posted here, we would have hundreds of posts a day.
Not criticising you at all Logan, just pointing out that it is easy to find the fakes..and hard to find the originals :)
If we study the good stuff, the fakes begin to jump out.

Head slap..how many more do you need to see...maybe after 12K+ post you'll feel the same way. Anybody got my back?

Dang, Stephen, never noticed your post count till you mentioned that! You must have started posting when you were 12, right!? Or maybe you're an old fart, like me! ;)

Not to worry its basically a rite of passage with new members and nihonto enthusiast to want to share that you've found a blatant fake.

like Brian said much more fun to find a hidden  gem on Ebay and say hey i think ive found a good one. All part of the learning experience enjoy.
