James Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 Hello all I've just found this: http://cgi.ebay.com/SIGNED-ANTIQUE-JAPA ... dZViewItem Fraudster from China is copying my listing! He even copied the line that says "Special 3 day listing with no reserve" when his fraudulent auction is for 5 days Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 How do these people work? Is this a parallel auction, and does the successful bidder then send money to the person in China? Quote
James Posted August 16, 2008 Author Report Posted August 16, 2008 Wait, I have an idea. Check his auction again in 5 minutes. Quote
James Posted August 16, 2008 Author Report Posted August 16, 2008 I've managed to change his auction so that it now has a big warning sign on it. That should suffice until eBay gets rid of him. Quote
Stephen Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 he must have fixed it see no warning sign. Quote
drbvac Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 Stephen: The warning is in the photo section - have to scroll through them! Quote
Stephen Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 Dr B i did twice ...must be a cookie thing. Quote
Brian Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 Stephen, It is just showing the pics from your cache since you loaded the earlier ones. Just hit "ctrl+refresh" or "shift+refresh" to refresh the page. LOL. This is the pic that the seller has linked to. Nice one, using that technique I showed earlier. Brian Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 Hang on James... how did u manage to change the pic in his listing without his password ? wow i must be getting rusty! KM Quote
James Posted October 30, 2008 Author Report Posted October 30, 2008 The photos I (and he) was using were being hosted by a website - Photobucket in my case, so when you modify or delete the photos, any website on which the photo is linked i.e. the eBay auction, also gets modified since they are directly linked. So when I logged on to Photobucket I modified one of the photos to read the warning text, and that causes the photo on the fraudster's listing to also be modified. Sounds a bit confusing but it's dead simple. Quote
Brian Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 KM, He is hotlinking his images linked directly to Jame's pics in his own photo album. So just uploading a new version of the pic changes the pic he is linked to. A lot of scammers link directy to the pics they have stolen. Brian Edit:- snap. James got there first. Day one in Tokyo..love this city Quote
