eugene walton Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 I sent a sword to fred lohman 2 YEARS ago, he has been putting me off saying it`s not finished - finely he admitted that he lost the sword!!!. Now he won`t return my e- mails. force into filling a complaint with the US. postal inspectors. This is a real nightmare, I thought this guy was honest.... BUT HE Sure HAS NOT WITH ME. Beware if your thinking of sending a sword to this guy
takakage Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 Hello, i am not very surprised by that. few years ago , i have ordered fittings, he sent me wrong items, returned asap by me. now, i'm waiting the good one.........(when i have extra time he says........) i must be unlucky with some sellers........
Brian Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 I have usually heard fairly good things about Fred, so this does come as unusual to me. If anyone knows him, perhaps they could provide his side of the story? It would seem strange for a dealer to lose a sword and then not offer any sort of recompense? Brian
eugene walton Posted August 16, 2008 Author Report Posted August 16, 2008 I made sure I keept the E-MAILS, But now he won`t even reply to my E-MAILS
Brian Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 Have you tried phoning or faxing, since both numbers are on the website? Sometimes a polite chat sorts out things much easier and less emotional than an email. Brian
katanako Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 I went to the Northern California Sword Show at SF Airport Mariott. I went there specifically to see Fred Lohman, but he wasn't there although a friend of his was manning his booth. He told me that Fred decided not to come at the last minute. After I read the above, I simply called Fred Lohman Co., and Fred himself answered the phone. He explained that he was "so damn busy, he couldn't come down." I had sent him a doggie wakazashi which I had bought on ebay, and he did a nice job of polishing it for $700. I showed the blade around to some dealers at the show and they were surprised that he had done a good job for that price. I'm sending him the wak he polished for me...it is a garden variety blade signed Ashu Kaibu Ju Ujiyoshi, UJI 215 Hawley. Just a bare blade. Since it is not deserving of fittings costing $$$$, I figure I will have Freddie dress it up in his repro fittings. I told Fred that I will be sending it up and he said, "OK!" KATANAKO
Kevin Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 I obviously can't comment on these particular circumstances. OTOH, I have dealt with Fred on many an occasion, and in my experience he's a nice guy who has always been straight with me. As I recall, his email box has been spammed to hell, giving him severe problems. He advised me the other day that the best way to get in touch by email was to use the email form on his website. I think it's something to do with filters and whatnot. Further, on one or two occasions his email server has thrown a strop and refused to handle an email not sent by the email form on his site. Then again, I've had no problems when I have used his email form, though he advises that if you don't hear from him in a couple of days, send the email again. regards Kevin Jones
eugene walton Posted August 22, 2008 Author Report Posted August 22, 2008 I received a E-mail from Fred Lohman, it seems my sword was stolen along with several others by a polisher, Fred says he will replace my sword with another of equal quality using my fittings, I promised I would be patient. as this sword was koshi-zori and may be a Little hard to replace(showa ). I hope this will work out. only time will tell. BUT he seems willing. I would like to change this topic from fraud to CONFUSION :?
Brian Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 Sounds like a bad situation for everyone involved. I hope you come right soon, and glad to see that Fred is in contact with you. Thanks for updating us. I changed the topic to "confused" Topic locked, but pm me if there is any further news later. Brian
