sabi Posted June 21, 2019 Report Posted June 21, 2019 Hey everyone! I'm hoping some kind soul here can help me with a translation for the packaging of a recently acquired chawan. There are a few different lineages of Ohi potters but even information about the mainline is very scarce in English. I would greatly appreciate any kind of assistance here, I realize script can be very hard to decipher so if it can't be done with much confidence no worries. The stamped seal on the box matches what's on the base of the bowl - I recognize the Ohi character but am unsure of the other. Some study has led me to believe this is by the 8th gen Choraku Ohi, and I was hoping box and paper might confirm, or at least point me in another direction. Arigato-gozaimasu! Quote
Fuuten Posted June 21, 2019 Report Posted June 21, 2019 I have this one archived under 8th generation Choraku Ohi. I used to have a site where there was some information, but i can't seem to find it right now (if i find it later I'll edit post:). 1 Quote
Nobody Posted June 22, 2019 Report Posted June 22, 2019 On the box; 大樋 - Ohi 茶碗 - Chawan 大樋長楽造 - Ohi Choraku made The paper describes the history and characteristics of Ohi pottery by the name of Ohi Choraku. 1 Quote
sabi Posted June 24, 2019 Author Report Posted June 24, 2019 Much appreciated gentlemen! Axel, yes I could've sworn there was a site too and searched to no avail before posting here. Chano-yu.com has good info on the mainline Ohi, perhaps the resource we're thinking of has been taken down?? Either way I really appreciate you checking your archive and confirming the signature and stamp! Quote
