Justin Grant Posted June 19, 2019 Report Posted June 19, 2019 I am curious how the silver and or gold was inlaid inside of the carvings on barrels? Anyone know the process? I have a dragon carved on a barrel that had the last vestiges of silver left in a few speck areas, and wondered who it was applied, so I could contemplate reinstalling. Thanks Justin Quote
IanB Posted June 19, 2019 Report Posted June 19, 2019 Justin, I have exactly the same problem. What they do is chisel the outline and details and then add the silver using the normal nunome zogan technique of cross-hatching the surface and applying silver foil inside the outline. Ian 3 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted June 20, 2019 Report Posted June 20, 2019 That’s my limit too. Nunomé zogan is applied to cross-hatching on the surface, and Hon zogan is metal that is forced into deeper hollows cut with tagané cold chisels into the surface. 1 Quote

Justin Grant Posted June 24, 2019 Author Report Posted June 24, 2019 Thank you. So, it's not a DIY repair. Oh-well. Now I know! Quote
