LostTYPE98 Posted June 8, 2019 Report Posted June 8, 2019 This is probably a lost cause but I am searching for a WW2 Japanese Officers sword type 98 that my granddad brought back. I believe a family member may have pawned it years ago in Mississippi. The only way to identify it the was a small plastic cloud shaped tag with barely visible writing on it, and some very faint writing in red crayon on the saya. If anyone every finds this I would be so thankful and would love to buy it back.
dominnimod Posted June 19, 2019 Report Posted June 19, 2019 I will never understand how some people can get rid so easily of family heirlooms, that's a real shame, wish you luck with the search, seems impossible as the identifiers could have been removed with time, but more improbable things have happened, do you have more info on the blade?
vajo Posted June 20, 2019 Report Posted June 20, 2019 There are thousends of Type98 out there. If you have a picture or a detailed description would help. Blade lenght, Signed Nakago, polish condition, blade condition (flaws, scratches, broken tip,..) color of the saya, real same or celluloid, type of tsuba and fittings, and many more. Otherwise, no chance. Your sword could be elsewhere on planet earth.
PNSSHOGUN Posted June 20, 2019 Report Posted June 20, 2019 Wild goose chase unless you have pictures or a more detailed description. The most recognizable features are certainly the blade and after that any small silver discs on the handle with a family crest engraved on them.
