Michaelr Posted May 30, 2019 Report Posted May 30, 2019 Hello and thank you in advance. I need help in reading the star stamped blade that I picked up in a package deal with some other Japanese stuff. Quote
Michaelr Posted May 30, 2019 Author Report Posted May 30, 2019 Sorry for the orientation. I thought they were vertical when I posted them. Is there a way to make them vertical? Thank you Quote
Brian Posted May 30, 2019 Report Posted May 30, 2019 You can edit your post. Have to delete them, and re-upload. But cell pics will often rotate. Best to edit them on the phone and save, even if they appear correct. Then upload.Pc upload is fine. 1 Quote
Ray Singer Posted May 30, 2019 Report Posted May 30, 2019 Minamoto Morinobu. Please see below for an example which was made just one month after yours. https://japanesesword.com/archived-pages/2017/8/5/morinobu-katanaoshigata-used-in-sloughs-book-of-showa-smiths 2 Quote
Tom Darling Posted May 30, 2019 Report Posted May 30, 2019 Hi Michael, totally beautiful nakago. Would love to see pic. of your tachi mei katana? Tom D. Quote
Ray Singer Posted May 30, 2019 Report Posted May 30, 2019 And here is one made one month before yours. He was an excellent smith. http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/26782-minamoto-morinobu-gendaito-in-gunto-koshirae/ Quote
Michaelr Posted May 30, 2019 Author Report Posted May 30, 2019 Thank you Ray,Tom and Brian. I am away from home right now but will post some pictures of the whole swords and mounts as soon as I get home. Quote
Michaelr Posted May 30, 2019 Author Report Posted May 30, 2019 Here are a couple more pictures that I had with me Quote
Bazza Posted May 31, 2019 Report Posted May 31, 2019 A most noteworthy feature of this sword is the not often seen reverse takanoha yasurime (reverse hawk feather filemarks). The signature is also most elegantly incised. BaZZa. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted May 31, 2019 Report Posted May 31, 2019 Is the rest of the mei noting who ordered it or some sort of patriotic inscription? Quote
kyushukairu Posted May 31, 2019 Report Posted May 31, 2019 John, the characters beside the nengo just state that the smith was a resident of Higo Futami (肥後二見人), which is in modern day Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted May 31, 2019 Report Posted May 31, 2019 Well, part of the other side is a date: A day in September, 1942. I can't read the rest. Also, John, do the tsuba and seppa have numbers or marking similar to the marking at the end of your nakago? Quote
Michaelr Posted May 31, 2019 Author Report Posted May 31, 2019 Bruce the sword is mine and I will look at the other parts when I get home. I believe they all match. I will post pictures of everything as soon as I can. Thanks. MikeR Quote
Michaelr Posted June 1, 2019 Author Report Posted June 1, 2019 Ok just got home and took a few more pictures of my sword. I hope they are ok and please enjoy. MikeR Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted June 1, 2019 Report Posted June 1, 2019 Ah so! The odd stamp on the nakago is probably a poorly struck "9" with "4" matching the numbers on the fittings. Thanks Michael! Quote
Tom Darling Posted June 1, 2019 Report Posted June 1, 2019 You got a Rolex Michael, one of the nicest gunto saya, tsuka mint condition I've seen! Blade is perfect, of course. Congratulations. Tom D.. Quote
Michaelr Posted June 1, 2019 Author Report Posted June 1, 2019 Thank you Tom. Yes Bruce the number on the Nakago is 94, glad I could help. Quote
