bathala Posted May 30, 2019 Report Posted May 30, 2019 hi just wanted to share my wakisahi/ o tanto which just recently passed nthk shinsa. it has a kinpun mei, sadamune ofcourse somewhat impossible, but still sent the sword for the sheer quality of the blade. passed, attributed to harima no kami teruhiro, kanei era which makes this he 3rd? i guess. for your enjoyment heres some pics 4 Quote
raynor Posted May 30, 2019 Report Posted May 30, 2019 Congratulations. Are those NTHK papers from the Shinsa held in Tampa earlier this year? Quote
bathala Posted May 30, 2019 Author Report Posted May 30, 2019 no sir. in Japan last month i think Quote
Tom Darling Posted May 30, 2019 Report Posted May 30, 2019 That's very interesting, i had a gem of a sword with kin'mei, several years ago and submitted to the NTHK, they said, I need to remove the mei before they would appraise. Did you have to remove the kin-mei, i assume that wasn't the case. I left the mei on, and sold a masterpiece. Now I know it was shoshin. I recall reading that Dr. Homma said, "once the signature has been removed, even the very best opinion is only a guess" Peace.. Tom D. Quote
bathala Posted May 30, 2019 Author Report Posted May 30, 2019 no tom i did not. i believe whatever the mei is its part of the swords history. iguess times are changing, seems for the better. even if it was just to up there value or to stand for a koto master, these swords were masterpeices in themselves, in my opinion so as to stand as a koto masteterpeice.
