Nobody Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 Hi Henry, The Mei reads Koki ni sen roppyaku nen aki (Autumn in 2600 Imperial year (= 1940)), Inoue Sadakane saku kore (Inoue Sadakane made this). Quote
Brian Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 Henry, Seems like a good maker of Gendaito according to these pages: http://home.earthlink.net/~ttstein/tosho.htm http://home.earthlink.net/~steinrl/rank.htm Can't tell you if this is Showato or Gendaito, but he seems to have been quite respected. atomiceye Posted October 27, 2006 Author Report Posted October 27, 2006 Brian, Wow! Thank you for the information! Unfortunately the sword is in poor condition. Apparently someone tried to polish the blade with a grinder. I do not know if this sword is repairable. It's a shame Regards, Henry Quote
Carlo Giuseppe Tacchini Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 Hi Henry. Seems to me better than others abused I've seen. If it hasn't been heated too much it might deserve to take a better look by a professional. In this forum there are sharpest and more trained eyes for such a thing, so be optimist till to contrary evidence :D . Quote
Henry Wilson Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 To me it looks in a bit of a bad state. I think the basic structure looks damaged, not just the surface. The blade in the left hand side of the bottom picture looks swollen were the other side looks normal. It looks like it has been bent or something resulting in the cutting edge and the ridge line (shinogi) looking distorted. Just my two pennies :| Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 Its amazing what a talented polisher can do to save a sword. What becomes critical and the 'big' question is how low is the lowest point that was ground off. It seems worth the effort to find out if it can be saved. Takeo Seki in BC Canada does excellent foundation work. Quote
