Hi All,

I have noticed time and again, recently, that highly sought after blades for sale are not selling.

WTF?

Is there any Member willing to part with their hard earn earnings? If so, which blade do you require?

It could simply be that buyers are not willing to pay the price that sellers are asking. Its all supply and demand. Anything is only worth what someone is willing to pay. Once those with money have what they want, then all the gorgeous and highly-sought blades in the world won't matter.

Thank you Rayhan and Chris.

Rayhan..."Can we define highly sought after?" Sure, what is in demand these days?

Chris.."It could simply be that buyers are not willing to pay the price that sellers are asking". Perhaps, but the sellers are selling at, I would say, a price that is more than reasonable, no?

Greg,

What are you really after? Isn't this just your sales pitch? You try to get people to tell you what they want and then you try to find it to play the middleman and take a cut (commission). Nothing wrong with that as long as you are honest about your intent.

It may be a reasonable asking price when comparing to past sales, but there simply may not be any buyers at that price level currently. A person could be selling a $250,000 Ferrari but if there's no buyers for that price level of a Ferrari, it will go unsold.

From what I've seen it's simply that this board is not the place to sell 10K+ items.

Which is a bit of a problem: these items have nowhere to go in terms of sale without being exposed to big commissions.

Buy what you like and not what others say that you should like. Thats easy to understand.

To sell a high priced sword is complicated because the people who can buy such a sword are more rare than those who says "Thats a great sword". The second sentence is "if i had the money i would buy this sword".  :)

This week a wakizashi on NMB was sold in minutes and many wanted to buy it (myself too). So it is allways depending on the price.

Folk have to be realistic when it comes to selling swords. You will only gain back what you spend at a dealer if its outstanding in some way.

Something relatively rare or unusual, or very interesting about it + NBTHK et al
