Ray Singer Posted May 3, 2019 Report Posted May 3, 2019 Tomita Sukehiro was a well known smith who was a part of the Kato family of swordsmiths. His birth name was Tomita Shotaro and he was born in 1901. This sword has an absolutely wonderful sugata, wide and powerfully shaped. The sword is little tapering, with the width continuing to the saki-moto and having a large kissaki. The sword is well signed and dated to the 2603rd year of the founding of the empire (1943). The hamon is a sugu-based ko-choji with deep ashi and kinsuji. The jihada is a tight ko-itame with chikei and ji-nie. The katana measures 63.5cm, with a 3.2cm moto-haba and 7mm kasane. It is in polish and shirasaya with a Type 3 gunto koshirae. Mei: Sukehiro Saku 祐弘 Nengo: Koki Ni Sen Roppyaku Nen Sho Gatsu Hi Price: $2,850 (plus shipping and PalPal) Best regards, Ray
