Hi i just became a member here cause ive ben interested in katanas since i was a little kid. I want to start collecting swords and tsubas. I meen i have wanted for a long time but my first buy will be really soon and it will probably be an tsuba or a iaito, cause thats how big my wallet is hehe.

Well to the question.

A couple of months ago i was offered to buy this sword for about 1200 usdollars. The seller is a guy in Japan who goes around the country and search for katans he can buy from people on the country side. And i have a guy here in sweden who was my contact to him. I really got som nice help from him so i think he is honest, thou it cant hurt having u guys oppinion on it. So i know if i can trust this guy or not.

The info i got from him is that the blade is older than the fittings and it is not a machine made blade or a WWII blade, the fittings on a other side could be from around WWII. He couldnt give me a year it was produced but he promised it is old.

I didnt buy the sword casue i was realy broke at the time, but i have been wondering ever since i got the offer. Did i miss a great sword or was i lucky that i didnt have enough money at the time? I really wanted to buy it.

So tell me what u guys can say about it from the pictures.

Hi, looks like modern reproduction to me. I wouldn't pay that price, or any, on this blade according to these photos. Invest in books first, it will save you money eventually. Mike

I wouldn't even grace this piece of poop with the term reproduction. Chinese or Thai fake with a cosmetic temper line; nothing better.

You really need to spend some money on books and serious time in study before you buy a sword. Otherwise you're as likely to waste your money as you are to get something worthwhile.

You have access to web, go to commercial links and start eveyday looking at Nihonto pictures.

Then within a week please come back to the Board and tell us in your opinion what is wrong with this blade. Exercize your eyes and be critical will teach you more than other people opinion.

Go to Ginza Choshuya and see their high rez pictures, same for Aoi Art or Nihonto. ca

Thanks for all the answers.

And i will look up all the things you mention.

And the guy who tried to sell this to me where also trying to teach me how to spot a fake. But now i dont trust those things so i will start over.

I really hope i will have a real sword soon.
