Tom Darling Posted April 9, 2019 Report Posted April 9, 2019 I believe this orikaeshi is mumei, am I right? The mekugi-ana looks displaced. I can't find kaji Suyesa, and what shinsa is this from? The nakago is outstanding. Quote
SteveM Posted April 10, 2019 Report Posted April 10, 2019 NBTHK paper from 1987. Mumei. The attribution is to Sue-Sa (or various other spellings, but try that one and you should get a few hits). Doesn't look like orikaeshi-mei. Its more like a gakumei, but without any remaining identifiable marks on the gakumei. Slightly unusual, but maybe the mei was once there, but has since worn off from handling? 1 Quote
Vermithrax16 Posted April 10, 2019 Report Posted April 10, 2019 Steve M covered it. This is a Sue Sa that Danny has up at NihontoCraft and it's spectacular. A friend of mine got to handle it at the NY auction and sent me great pictures of it. 1 Quote
ChrisW Posted April 10, 2019 Report Posted April 10, 2019 That nakago is really aesthetically pleasing. Quote
Ray Singer Posted April 10, 2019 Report Posted April 10, 2019 The mei within the gakumei might have been found to be false and was removed. I have seen that a few times. Would have been quite easy to transpose the mei from a fatally flawed sword with an authentic signature, into a healthy high quality osuriage mumei blade. 2 Quote

Tom Darling Posted April 10, 2019 Author Report Posted April 10, 2019 Yes, that makes sense, gukumei (mumei worn off ?) with original mekugi-ana. What is the nagasa on the origami? It must have been quite long, estimate? SA indeed, love it! Thank you all for info. Tom D. Quote

All this info is right here, and I have no idea why you don't know that: http://www.nihontocraft.com/Sue_Sa_Katana.html Quote
Tom Darling Posted April 10, 2019 Author Report Posted April 10, 2019 Jeremiah, I didn't know that because I didn't know that. Nice pictures. Tom D. Quote
