Kozuka translation.

Hi all.

I was wondering if anyone could help me with the mei on this kozuka. So far I've got tempo 14, year of the hare, but I'm struggling with the rest. I'm by no means a collector of kozuka or even soft metal fittings but the workmanship looks very good.I'd be most appreciative if anyone could help with it.

Gethin, as you said, the nengo is Tenpō 14 (1843), year of the rabbit (天保十四卯年)
The bottom part states that it was made by Kawarabayashi Hōsai (川原林宝斎鐫)

天保十四卯年 Tenpo 14 rabbit (hare) year !843. Maybe 祝詞 norito or shukushi, Shinto prayer. Ah, Kyle already has it.  The only one missing is below 'nen'.John

Ōtsuki school. I think it is the same person as Kawarabayashi Hideoki (川原林秀興). Hōsai is another art name of his.

Yes Steve, it's the same person.  Hōsai was Kawarabayashi Hideoki's gō.
