adam133722 Posted March 31, 2019 Report Posted March 31, 2019 Hello. I want to buy this katana but I'm not sure if this is original or chinese fake. Can you check those photos and anwser? https://allegro.pl/oferta/oryginalna-katana-uchigatana-kanetomo-mino-7925334165This is polish auction web site. Sorry for bad english. Quote
Surfson Posted March 31, 2019 Report Posted March 31, 2019 I can't make out the signature, but based only on these photos, I think that it is a genuine Japanese sword. if those are zloty, is that about $300 US? If so, it appears to be a good deal. Quote
adam133722 Posted March 31, 2019 Author Report Posted March 31, 2019 Thank you for anwser. The offer looks like real and seller is dating sword for 400-470 years ago. I got more pictures of blade but it doesn't help with checking originality Quote
16k Posted March 31, 2019 Report Posted March 31, 2019 I can’t seem to see any hada. Do you have a picture of the whole blade. I’d like to see the nakago and the blade on the same picture because I have some Chinese swords whose Hamon look suspiciously like that! Quote
adam133722 Posted March 31, 2019 Author Report Posted March 31, 2019 I got only those 3 more pictures. Quote
16k Posted March 31, 2019 Report Posted March 31, 2019 Look, I’m no expert, but you should ask the guy for a picture of the whole blade without fittings. The tang looks real but I’m not so sure about the blade. Tsunami Dragon, à Chinese eBay seller makes blades with a very similar Hamon and no Hada. I still wonder if the blade and the tang belong to the same sword. Quote
John A Stuart Posted March 31, 2019 Report Posted March 31, 2019 7500zl is about $2000US is it not? Might be alright there, but, I'd hesitate at more. John Quote
16k Posted March 31, 2019 Report Posted March 31, 2019 Here's an example of hamon by Tsunami Dragon. Quote
SteveM Posted March 31, 2019 Report Posted March 31, 2019 兼友入道之作 Kanetomo Nyūdō kore wo tsukuru Made by Kanetomo Nyūdō Looks OK to me. Maybe it has been lightly acid washed to make the hamon pop. This is not desirable to most nihonto collectors, so it could be remedied by having the blade polished. Quote
Logan09 Posted March 31, 2019 Report Posted March 31, 2019 My only comment is it looks like it has a brass habaki that isn't fitted right. 1 Quote
Surfson Posted March 31, 2019 Report Posted March 31, 2019 About the price, I saw the 1300 number - maybe that is the buyer's premium? $2000 is not as much of a good deal. Quote
ROKUJURO Posted March 31, 2019 Report Posted March 31, 2019 TSUKA (handle), HABAKI and SAYA (sheath) seem to be new and are probably from a cheap decoration sword or IAITO. Parts of the blade look like an oil-hardened one from WW II to me. NAKAGO looks old, though. One would have to see the blade in hand to decide. As you are not an expert, better be careful. Quote
16k Posted April 1, 2019 Report Posted April 1, 2019 Okay, so nakago and blade belong to the same sword. Nakago looks old, blade not so much, maybe it was just acid etched and it’s real but of it were me, I’d still regard it as suspicious... ...still, some more experienced members here should be more trusted than me, it’s just a gut feeling. Tom Darling Posted April 4, 2019 Report Posted April 4, 2019 It doesn't pass the smell test, imo. Tom D. Quote
Surfson Posted April 14, 2019 Report Posted April 14, 2019 Looks to me to be genuine, but somebody buffed the blade or treated it with some very fine steel wool or sandpaper. Not worth the money that was discussed, in my opinion. Quote
