Logan09 Posted March 31, 2019 Report Posted March 31, 2019 Has anyone every seen something like this? Two piece wood Saya that is held together by brass straps. Koiguchi is cutout for locking piece and is made of brass, but looks like it was silver washed originally. Any ideas on this? Thanks. -Logan- Quote
IJASWORDS Posted March 31, 2019 Report Posted March 31, 2019 Yep, they are normally leather covered for combat. I have the same fittings in copper and others chrome plated. May be the idea was a lighter weight sword, but still having a locking mechanism. Quote
Logan09 Posted March 31, 2019 Author Report Posted March 31, 2019 Thanks Neil! I was curious as to wether or not it's supposed to have a leather cover. Looking at it more it appears there's a faint ring around the wood for an Ashi that's no longer there. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted April 1, 2019 Report Posted April 1, 2019 Yes original, mine also has a normal Type 98 Ashi like Neils, perhaps by the same Koshirae maker even. It was covered in leather but the cover has disintegrated and a replacement used. 1 Quote
