Hi guys ,

Friends bought this sword interstate from some chap supposedly on his death bed , i saw it and said it was a copy but another fellow saw it and said it was possibly a java made sword during the war for the occupying and collaborating axis forces ?but blades faux damascus , the numbers look modern and the leather and stitching look cheap and though aged look more like theyve been achieved by leaving in the elements or burying in yard for a few weeks

hope im wrong for his sake

cheers in advance

Damascus steel and serial numbers on the habaki are classic signs of Chinese fakes. The tsuba, from what I can see, might be legit.

I honestly don’t know when Damascus steel first cake into use. The rig as a whole looks to have age, so maybe it was made by the Chinese even during the war? But that would depend on knowing the history of Damascus steel use.

I'd go with it being a Chinese fake. That blade and the fittings, and the number stamped into the habaki all scream repro. My guess is the leather's either been aged, or they found some old sword leather and put it on to make it look more authentic.
