terminus Posted March 27, 2019 Report Posted March 27, 2019 I stumbled upon this tsuba on ebay today: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Sale-Tsuba-Japanese-Samurai-sword-Katana-Koshirae-guard-Kanzan-figure-Antique/264213053098 and I was wondering if I could get any info from about it. It's quite expensive for a non nbthk authenticated tsuba but I just absolutely love the design and aesthetics on it. Specifically, I was wondering: -It seems the figure is Kanzan. Where is Jittoku and why is he alone? what's with the firey background?-Of course, do you think it's real? seems to be from the Kaneyuki (Hamano school). The front looks textured and gritty while the back is super smooth, could that be a tell it's fake? are tsubas usually like this? 2 Quote
TETSUGENDO Posted March 27, 2019 Report Posted March 27, 2019 It is not a fake, it is Hamano school. The surface is the result of a badly damaged patina, it is in need of professional help. If the patina were properly restored it would be much more attractive. -S- Quote
Guido Posted March 27, 2019 Report Posted March 27, 2019 -It seems the figure is Kanzan. Where is Jittoku and why is he alone? what's with the firey background? The two are not necessarily always shown together, and the "fire" in the background looks to me like the trunk of a (partially) hollow tree. 1 Quote
