Nickupero Posted March 15, 2019 Report Posted March 15, 2019 Could I get some insight from the Tosogu aficionados as to what the theme could be? There appears to be 2 people on the Fuchi. Thanks in advance! Quote
Nickupero Posted March 17, 2019 Author Report Posted March 17, 2019 With all the great minds of the board I'm sure someone can anyone conjure up something better than what I have going. So far what I see is on the Fuchi is 2 regular Joe's, the guy to the left is telling his buddy "lets get the hell out of here, a big fire is headed this way"! on the Kashira a different story, this guy is as happy as can be. He's like " I just saved a bunch of money on my Cart insurance after switching to Geico", and decided to splurge on a new set of cloths. Wife told me I always had a special sense of humour, I guess she's right because I'm technically talking to myself on this thread Quote
Brian Posted March 17, 2019 Report Posted March 17, 2019 Hell..I'm still trying to decide if the dude is on his knees, or if he lost both his legs and looks happy about it! 2 Quote
ROKUJURO Posted March 17, 2019 Report Posted March 17, 2019 One of the warriors on the FUCHI carries a KEN as often seen with SHOKI, but he is mostly depicted in combination with ONI which I miss here. 1 Quote
TETSUGENDO Posted March 17, 2019 Report Posted March 17, 2019 Nick, I think we're all struggling here because the maker of this F/K has produced an effective design, but has fallen a bit short in the story telling department......just not enough visual information present to convey the subject with clarity. Perhaps someone very familiar with the incident portrayed here will come along to identify it. As per the state of the figure on the kashira, It looks to me like a bit of awkward european perspective being tried on by the maker. The feet are present, note the shoes, it's simply some rather clumsy foreshortening. Sometimes we forget that the influence of Japanese and European Art flowed both ways. -S- p.s.- this artist is good, but he's no Tiepolo. 2 Quote
MauroP Posted March 17, 2019 Report Posted March 17, 2019 The theme of F/K could be the story of Prince Yamato-dake no Mikoto, escaping an ambush set by burning pampa grass in the plains of Suruga. He succeeded in this endeavour using his miraculous 'Kusanagi no Tsurugi' - the grass-cutting sword. Bye, Mauro 3 Quote
Nickupero Posted March 25, 2019 Author Report Posted March 25, 2019 Got a laugh in there to your comment Brian, thanks for trying to continue from my poor attempt at humour, you succeeded far better... A big thanks to Jean, Steven and Mauro for your input. Mauro that is a very specific story which I managed to find and began reading. It does sound like it could be that, will continue reading. Thanks again! 2 Quote
