Taygrd Posted July 26, 2008 Report Posted July 26, 2008 Please forgive my ignorance, however I have a question regarding something I saw in an online auction. In a current auction the seller list that the permit cannot be sent with the sword but must be returned to the authorities. I have pasted his words below: "I am sorry, but the Japanese possession permit in the image is not precocious because of a sword. This certificate carried it to inform it of this sword having registered itself with the Japanese jurisdiction government office formally. Because I must return the authorities it, I cannot attach the possession permit of the sword. I dispatch an image to a necessary person." Is there something authentic to this or is it something one should be weary of when bidding on an item? I have refrained from bidding on any sword from a vendor that has not been mentioned as reputable on this board, and want to ensure that I make good choices. I would greatly appreaciate any insight into this matter. Thank you for tolerating a very green collector. Nathan T. Quote
Nobody Posted July 26, 2008 Report Posted July 26, 2008 The seller’s explanation seems to be reasonable. In order to obtain an export permit, the following documents have to be send (or handed in) to the Cultural Agency: filled in form*, original license, copy of license*, photo of tang*, photo of full blade*, and a self-addressed, stamped envelope (* = in duplicate). Brian Posted July 26, 2008 Report Posted July 26, 2008 Moriyama san put it perfectly. The licence is a registration document in Japan, and doesn't verify the signature or quality, just the fact that it is registered and legal. This is handed in when it is exported and deregistered. Sometimes you can ask for a photocopy, but it doesn't give any real info and I wouldn't bother. All sounds ok here. Brian Quote
Taygrd Posted July 26, 2008 Author Report Posted July 26, 2008 Thank you for your replies and your patience. I am going to study the link provided regarding the sword laws so that I have a better understanding. Nathan Quote
