PNSSHOGUN Posted October 26, 2019 Author Report Posted October 26, 2019 Hmm...not exactly practical for heavy combat work. Quote
lonely panet Posted October 27, 2019 Report Posted October 27, 2019 in modern terms, i think you would call a no-dachi a "force multiplier" hahhahahaha Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted April 27, 2020 Author Report Posted April 27, 2020 Here is one of the largest and most interesting I have seen yet, seller aside this is an absolutely remarkable sword. Akihide blade with 29" Nagasa and 45 Inches in mounts!!! Far out of my price range sadly. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Japanese-WWll-Army-officers-sword-Kurihara-Akihide-NBTHK-paper-mon-29-7-8/233571673250?hash=item3661f4e4a2:g:neAAAOSw~qVepjjG 2 Quote

Austo1 Posted April 28, 2020 Report Posted April 28, 2020 Hi John I just read your earlier post.......... Look up Gunto Art Swords 010802 Lt. general Hoshino Toshimoto Shingunto. Order made showato with a 30" cutting edge. From memory it was about 45 inches overall length and in excellant condition. Regards Doug 1 Quote
johnb Posted May 16, 2020 Report Posted May 16, 2020 Overall length 40" Nagasa 28.5" Signed Minamoto Masakane...I think! Any help with that would be much appreciated. Quote
reeder Posted May 16, 2020 Report Posted May 16, 2020 I just got one that the OAL was 41”. Nagasa was 25”. ???????????? 3 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted May 16, 2020 Author Report Posted May 16, 2020 That is most unusual Brandon, I have come across plenty of longer Nagasa swords in relatively short OAL mount but not the inverse. Is it an older blade? Quote
Ontario_Archaeology Posted June 21, 2020 Report Posted June 21, 2020 40" total https://www.ebay.com/itm/203026129781 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted August 29, 2020 Author Report Posted August 29, 2020 Well....here is the holy grail of large Shin Gunto: 36 Inch Nagasa Odachi in Type 94 mounts. there aren't any measurements but the Nagasa alone is about the size of a normal Type 98 in mounts.... I doubt there is anything larger than this out there so enjoy: https://www.rockislandauction.com/detail/59/3292/massive-and-impressive-odachilength-Japanese-sword-with-shin-gu 4 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted August 29, 2020 Report Posted August 29, 2020 To preserve the pictures: Rock Island will send more pics, if requested. Be nice to see the nakago. 3 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted August 29, 2020 Report Posted August 29, 2020 What do you think about that ito? It it a modern re-wrap? I realize this whole rig is a total custom job, so I suppose they could have used a custom fabric for the ito, but it's just unusual. I also ask because, as noted on the MONs thread, the mon seems to be that of Akiyama, but it's upside-down if it is, like the person who re-wrapped this (if they did) put the menuki back upside-down. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted August 29, 2020 Author Report Posted August 29, 2020 I believe this Ito original to the sword, it's uncommon but that style of Ito was done usually on higher grade swords. 1 1 Quote

Bruce Pennington Posted October 12, 2020 Report Posted October 12, 2020 Here's one for ya John! Long, and apparently skinny. Since he's mounting a half-track, we could start a rumor about "Half-track swords" being really long! 1 1 1 Quote

Do you think that looks like a light weight shin gunto and the slimmed down version just appears longer in the photo? Here is my example next to a normal sized one. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted October 12, 2020 Author Report Posted October 12, 2020 Great find! I think the sword is just being held at an angle rather than being skinny. 1 Quote
