Bazza Posted March 3, 2019 Report Posted March 3, 2019 A good cleanup often brings forgotten gems to the surface. As a collector/hoarder for 50+ years I've got more than my share of buried "treasure". The article herewith periodically resurfaced in past cleanups and as quickly disappeared again. THIS TIME I'm determined to preserve it for posterity. As a "sweetener" (??) I've also attached a photo of where I found it... Enjoy. BaZZa. 4 Quote
Brian Posted March 3, 2019 Report Posted March 3, 2019 The foreground may explain the background :rotfl: :rotfl:Thanks Bazza. Great article. 1 Quote
george trotter Posted March 3, 2019 Report Posted March 3, 2019 Great stuff Baz, Thanks for sharing that snippet of history. I think that article may be right about "fading away"...I've been to Nara a couple of times - saw lots of deer roaming around, but not one Marist. (btw, I think we have the same decorator!!!). raynor Posted March 3, 2019 Report Posted March 3, 2019 Are those VCR tapes? I found a floppy disk when cleaning my boxes recently.. now I cant toss it like I did the others years ago. Is that how it starts? Quote
vajo Posted March 3, 2019 Report Posted March 3, 2019 Oh on the right side is a very nice NCO Copper handle sword. I hope they didn't destroy it after sending back. Quote
Bazza Posted March 3, 2019 Author Report Posted March 3, 2019 Are those VCR tapes? I found a floppy disk when cleaning my boxes recently.. now I cant toss it like I did the others years ago. Is that how it starts? Omar, Yes, lots of VCR tapes. I actually have an intact 8-inch floppy disk drive (I nearly wrote FDD but I feared it would need translating!!) and a box of the floppies!! I used to love those old valve radios with beautifully engineered ganged tuning capacitors. I still have a couple of old ca1920s vacuum tubes with horizontal elements. etc etc etc Bestests, BaZZa. PS: Oh, and as for "Is that how it starts?" it started very early on in my life. I was always a collector of something, just couldn't help myself. Birds eggs, old radios, more etc etc etc. Here, in answer to Brian I may as well show you the rest, the images below scanning from right to left around the room. I took these photos because my wife gave me an ultimatum "The condition of buying your last two swords was that you clean up your s#*thole of a study - that was two years ago now and I don't see any progress". I'll put up more photos when the progress is complete. Sighhh... Who knows what else I'll discover. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted March 3, 2019 Report Posted March 3, 2019 I suspect there could be at least 3 lost Masamunes tucked away in there... 2 Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted March 3, 2019 Report Posted March 3, 2019 I can only see three botlles of wine (?). How can you study with that few lubricants? Quote
Blagoy Posted March 3, 2019 Report Posted March 3, 2019 I see a nice Kuniyoshi Utagawa print with title Munenori from series 47 ronin! ???? 2 Quote
vajo Posted March 3, 2019 Report Posted March 3, 2019 You need a bulldozer Bazza, throw away all you think about twice to hold it. Then you will see the room will be fast empty. I often collect some waste in thinking i could need this in the future. But mostly i never need it. So my wife says. If you see it and you think you could need it, throw it away. Maybe that helps. Mister Gunto Posted March 5, 2019 Report Posted March 5, 2019 You're gonna need a lot more alcohol to clean all that up! Cool article, BTW. Quote
Ganko Posted March 5, 2019 Report Posted March 5, 2019 Nature abhors a vacuum. After seeing your archival filing system, it seems I have a ways to go yet. Thanks for sharing. TomC Quote
